Abstract: Companies of all industrial sectors are increasingly integrating Internet of Things (IoT) technology into their processes to realize a data-driven transformation of their businesses. The generation and use of comprehensive process data in real-time and the connection of process entities enables an improvement and beneficial redesign of business processes of all kinds. However, a goal-oriented exploitation of IoT technology for digital transformation and Business Process Improvements (BPI) is challenging due to the complexity of integrating IoT into existing processes. Companies require appropriate guidance to evaluate and scope their initiatives regarding IoT-based BPI. We therefore propose a holistic IoT-based BPI Maturity Model that assists organizations to determine their current state and get assistance to optimize or develop specific capabilities. This paper provides an overview about the structured development process of the maturity model comprising an extensive literature review and a six-round Delphi study. Collapse

Abstract: Process mining is one of the most active research streams in business process management. In recent years, numerous methods have been proposed for analyzing structured process data. In many cases, however, only the digitized parts of processes are directly captured by process-aware information systems, whereas manual ac­ tivities often leave blind spots in the process analysis. While video data can contain valuable process-related information that is not captured in information systems, a standardized approach to extracting event logs from unstructured video data remains lacking. To solve this problem and facilitate the systematic usage of video data in process mining, we have designed the ViProMiRA, a reference architecture that bridges the gap between computer vision and process mining. The various evaluation activities in our design science research process ensure that the proposed ViProMiRA allows flexible, use case-driven, and context-specific instantiations. Our results also show that a prototypical implementation of the ViProMiRA is capable of automatically extracting more than 70% of the process-relevant events from a real-world video dataset in a supervised learning scenario. Abstract: Emerging paradigms of attack challenge enterprise cybersecurity with sophisticated custom-built tools, unpre­ dictable patterns of exploitation, and an increasing ability to adapt to cyber defenses. As a result, organizations continue to experience incidents and suffer losses. The responsibility to respond to cybersecurity incidents lies with the incident response (IR) function. We argue that (1) organizations must develop ‘agility’ in their IR process to respond swiftly and efficiently to sophisticated and potent cyber threats, and (2) Real-time analytics (RTA) gives organizations a unique opportunity to drive their IR process in an agile manner by detecting cybersecurity incidents quickly and responding to them proactively. To better understand how organizations can use RTA to enable IR agility, we analyzed in-depth data from twenty expert interviews using a contingent resource-based view. The results informed a framework explaining how organizations enable agile characteristics (swiftness, flexibility, and innovation) in the IR process using the key features of the RTA capability (complex event processing, decision automation, and on-demand and continuous data analysis) to detect and respond to cybersecurity incidents as-they-occur which, in turn, improves their overall enterprise cybersecurity performance. Abstract: This paper studies, designs and implements a new type of emergency decision support system that aims to improve the decision-making of emergency managers in crisis situations by connecting them to new, multiple data sources. The system combines event-driven and model-driven architectures and is dedicated to crisis cells. After its implementation, the system is evaluated using a realistic crisis scenario, in terms of its user interfaces, its ability to interpret data in real time and its ability to manage the 4Vs of Big Data. The input events correspond to traffic measurements, water levels, water flows, water predictions and flow predictions made available by French official services. The main contributions of this study are: (i) the connection between a complex event processing engine and a graph database containing the model of the crisis situation and (ii) the continuous updating of a common operational picture for the benefit of emergency managers. Abstract: Cybersecurity adopts data mining for its ability to extract concealed and indistinct patterns in the data, such as for the needs of alert correlation. Inferring common attack patterns and rules from the alerts helps in understanding the threat landscape for the defenders and allows for the realization of cyber situational awareness, including the projection of ongoing attacks. In this article, we explore the use of data mining, namely sequential rule mining, in the analysis of intrusion detection alerts. We employed a dataset of 12 million alerts from 34 intrusion detection systems in 3 organizations gathered in an alert sharing platform, and processed it using our analytical framework. We execute the mining of sequential rules that we use to predict security events, which we utilize to create a predictive blacklist. Thus, the recipients of the data from the sharing platform will receive only a small number of alerts of events that are likely to occur instead of a large number of alerts of past events. The predictive blacklist has the size of only 3% of the raw data, and more than 60% of its entries are shown to be successful in performing accurate predictions in operational, real-world settings. Abstract: The development of analytical solutions for smart services systems relies on data. Typically, this data is distributed across various entities of the system. Cognitive learning allows to find patterns and to make predictions across these distributed data sources, yet its potential is not fully explored. Challenges that impede a cross-entity data analysis concern organizational challenges (e.g., confidentiality), algorithmic challenges (e.g., robustness) as well as technical challenges (e.g., data processing). So far, there is no comprehensive approach to build cognitive analytics solutions, if data is distributed across different entities of a smart service system. This work proposes a research agenda for the development of a service-oriented cognitive analytics framework. The analytics framework uses a centralized cognitive aggregation model to combine predictions being made by each entity of the service system. Based on this research agenda, we plan to develop and evaluate the cognitive analytics framework in future research. Collapse

This has motivated the development of support systems to automatically detect vessels’ behaviours of interest. The present work states a novel approach in this domain following the Complex Event Processing (CEP) paradigm. Therefore, we design an Analytics Platform for Professional Sports Teams. We introduce Sports Analytics as an interdisciplinary research field and establish a design science research project. As part of this project, we first explore three professional sports teams and theorize meta-requirements for our platform. Second, we propose design principles that indicate how the proposed meta-requirements may be addressed. Third, we develop a prototypical web application that indicates how the proposed design principles may be instantiated. Finally, we evaluate the application with two professional sports teams and a global software vendor. Abstract: The modern business environment tends to involve a large network of heterogeneous people, devices and organizations that engage in collaborative processes among themselves. Given the nature of this type of collaboration and the high degree of interoperability between partner Information Systems, these processes need to be agile in order to respond to changes in context, which may occur at any time during the collaborative situation. The objective is to build a Mediation Information System (MIS), in support of collaborative situations, whose architecture must be (i) built to be relevant to the collaborative situation under consideration, (ii) more easily integrated into the existing systems, and (iii) sufficiently agile, through its awareness of the environment and of process events, and through the way it reacts to events detected as being relevant. To apply agility mechanisms, it is crucial to detect the significant events that will lead to a subsequent evolution of the situation (detection step). Event-Driven Architecture (EDA) is used to design the structure of the part of the system that is in charge of MIS agility. This architecture takes the events into account, manages them and, if needed, uses them to trigger the adaptation of the MIS. We have defined a means to monitor the evolution of the situation. If relevant changes are detected, and if the situation does not evolve in the expected way, an adaptation is proposed. It is concluded that the principles of detection and adaptation, combined with the responsiveness of the system (provided by the automation of transitions), and based on Event Driven Architecture principles, together provide the agility required for collaborative processes.
