Abstract: One prominent stream of IS research focuses on cognitive absorption during technology use, which generally leads to favorable attitudes toward technology and increased performance. Another stream of IS research has examined outcomes of interruptions, such as interruption overload and decreased work performance. Do these two streams of inquiries, so far virtually independent from each another, in fact examine opposing sides of the same coin? Building on the autism research literature, this study presents a new theoretical model that integrates these two disparate sets of observations as opposing manifestations of one phenomenon, called autistic inertia, to explore impacts of neurodiversity on remote work. A survey is being carried out to empirically test the model. Data that we have collected so far have provided empirical support for the model. Implications for IS research and practice are discussed. Abstract: Emotions triggered by IT events have a decisive influence on IT use. Previous literature has focused on one point in time studies investigating the relationship between emotions and IT use. However, the process of perceiving an IT event, leading to emotions and changes in IT use proceeds dynamically over time. This research in progress paper concentrates on this process. We investigate how the change in perception of an IT event affects emotions and IT use over time. Therefore, we develop an online experiment simulating time pressure as an example of an IT event. During the experiment, data is collected at four different points in time. The data will be analyzed with a multivariate longitudinal latent growth model. We aim to enhance the current literature by capturing the dynamic changes in perceiving IT events, emotional responses, and subsequent changes in IT use over time. Collapse

Abstract: Flow, the holistic sensation people experience when they act with total involvement, is a known driver for desired work outcomes like task performance. However, the increasing ubiquity of IT at work can disrupt employees' flow. Thus, the impact of IT-mediated interruptions on flow warrants more attention in research and practice. We conducted a NeuroIS laboratory experiment focusing on a typical office work task-an invoice matching task (i.e., matching customer payments to invoices). We manipulated interruption frequency (low, high) and content relevance (irrelevant, relevant) to study the impact of interruptions on self-reported flow, its dimensions, and high-frequency heart rate variability (HF-HRV; calculated from electrocardiography recordings) as a proxy for parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) activation. We found that content relevance moderated the relationship between interruption frequency and self-reported flow and that these results vary along flow dimensions. Content relevance also moderated the relationship between interruption frequency and PNS activation. Thus, studies that investigate the antecedents of sustainable technology use are of primary interest as a way to increase the use of these solutions. On the other hand, sustainable technologies post-adoption studies are still very scarce in the literature, especially regarding both humanistic and instrumental outcomes. Therefore, a research model is developed to understand the main drivers and outcomes of sustainable technology use. Given the wide range of antecedents of use, a mixed methods design is adopted in an attempt to provide deeper insights into the phenomenon. Abstract: Advanced analytics can be used to gain comprehensive insights into real-time production processes. They are commonly subdivided into predictive and prescriptive analytics. While descriptive analytics only reflect current states of machinery, predictive analytics enables statements about the future. Going one step further, prescriptive analytics cover automated recommendations for action based on these predictions. On the one hand, humans as central stakeholders in production shall benefit from the information gained through advanced analytics to make better decisions. On the other hand, predictive and prescriptive analytics dashboards contain additional information and may potentially overwhelm human decision-makers in contrast to descriptive dashboards. In this study, we investigate the perception of human end users on information presented in descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive dashboards and investigate their cognitive absorption and task load. Our results show that more advanced predictive and prescriptive dashboards increase mental demand rather than lowering intellectual requirements. However, we found that prescriptive dashboards reduce user frustration by making decision alternatives and consequences more tangible. Collapse

Abstract: This study aims at identifying factors influencing robo-advisory demand and usage. We show that it is essential to tell apart the intention to invest in financial markets from the intention to use robo-advisor technology. Therefore, we develop an augmented model of the "Unified Theory of Adoption and Use of Technology" (augmented UTAUT model) that allows to explain both of these customers' intentions simultaneously. The model is evaluated by means of a PLS approach using online survey data collected in the US and Germany. Empirical results shed light on (potential) investors' intentions and attitudes towards robo-advisory services. The model developed in this paper is generally applicable whenever it comes to model adoption of a new technology that relies on the use of a basic product or a basic technology. Collapse

Abstract: Organizational use of digital technologies to monitor employee performance is increasing in response to competitive pressures and the emergence of hybrid working scenarios. These technologies provide employers with insights that can be used to increase organizational effectiveness, but have asymmetric power implications that accentuate employee privacy concerns. This study applies a psychological contract theory lens to explore the impact of these concerns in relation to mandatory location tracking, examining the psychosocial outcomes that affect the individual and their trust in the organization. Data collected from 709 Irish police officers are tested using covariancebased structural equation modelling. The findings confirm that information privacy concerns regarding digital location tracking impact the employee and shape their trust relationship with the organization through three pathways, the first being a direct effect, the second arising from the associated loss of autonomy and the third being through employee strain resulting from those privacy concerns. However, for platform workers, the use of technology can lead to digital overload, which may negatively impact their burnout and performance. In this paper, we examine the interplay between individuals' cognitive absorption in technology and technology overload in predicting gig workers' creative output. Using empirical data from 263 Amazon Mechanical Turk platform workers, we show that cognitive absorption positively predicts gig workers' creativity. Abstract: This study aims to contribute to the literature on knowledge management systems (KMS) through investigating the role of engagement as an important intermediary in the relationship between KMS use and outcomes. Building on prior literature, we propose a theoretical model that conceptualizes KMS use as a valuable resource and distinguish between two types of cognitive engagement: professional cognitive engagement and organizational cognitive engagement. These, in turn, mediate the KMS use-job performance and KMS use-organizational commitment relationships. We tested the model on a sample of 3354 real estate agents using an extensive dataset comprised of primary and secondary data. The findings show that KMS use has an impact on individuals' professional and organizational cognitive engagement, which then impacts their job performance and organizational commitment. However, our findings indicate that professional cognitive engagement only partially mediates the relationship between KMS use and job performance. We conclude the paper with a discussion of theoretical contributions and practical implications. Collapse

Abstract: This paper examines the fact that a significant number of empirical studies in behavioral information systems (IS) theory research engage in confirmative testing of self-evident axiomatic theories without yielding highly relevant knowledge for the IS community. To measure how pervasive such testing of axiomatic theories is, we conducted a horizontal analysis using 666 hypotheses from 72 representative behavioral IS theories and discovered that more than 60% of the hypotheses could be regarded as axiomatic theory elements. To further investigate the pervasiveness of repetitive testing of axiomatic theories, we vertically analyzed 1,301 hypotheses from 148 articles in three theory categories: technology acceptance model, diffusion of innovation theory, and institutional theory. These analyses revealed that 68.1% of these hypotheses were axiomatic and that 74.6% of them were inherited from general truths beyond the IS domain. In order to shift the research emphasis toward enhancing the relevance of IS research outcomes without sacrificing methodological rigor, we propose four complementary IS research approaches: (1) identifying disconfirming boundary conditions, (2) measuring the relative importance of axiomatic causal factors, (3) measuring the stage of progression toward visionary goals when the nature of the axiomatic theory can be extended to future visions, and (4) engaging in the conceptual design of visionary axiomatic goals. We conclude with a discussion about why so many scholars devote substantial effort to reconfirming axiomatic theories and suggest avenues for more relevant research outcomes. Collapse
