Abstract: Virtual Reality (VR) is becoming an increasingly important technology in a host of industries, including tourism. VR can provide virtual experiences before, during, or in lieu of real-world visits to tourism sites. Hence, providing authentic experiences is essential to satisfy guests with the site and technology. This study analyzes survey data using PLS to identify the determinants of satisfaction with non-immersive VR experiences of heritage and non-heritage tourism sites. Results from 193 subjects reveal the linkages between system quality, object-related authenticity, activity-related authenticity, and presence, as well their relationship with satisfaction. Collapse

Abstract: Due to the pervasive nature of social networking platforms, as well as the proliferation of user generated content, the internet has become a repository of unstructured multimedia data. The use of this huge data for user experience enhancement is still a problem, where topic detection is one of the solutions to solve this issue, not having been explored in the literature for this application. Videos with similar content or related to the same topic can be grouped together with the help of topic detection methods. In this paper, a framework for topic detection using web videos textual metadata has been developed. The key contribution in this paper is to leverage multimedia metadata to find web video topics using a two-step process . First, we used transformer-based model to perform topic modeling for identification of topics from the heterogeneous textual data of web videos. Second, topic-based video retrieval has been accomplished using a classification approach. Further, experiments are carried out on a publicly available dataset to assess the performance of the proposed method. The proposed work is compared to the state-of-the-art methods Discriminative Probabilistic Models (DPM), Event clustering based method (ECBM),Multi-Modality Based Method (MMBM), Side-Information Based Method (SIBM), and Similarity Cascades(SC), which shows that the proposed system outperforms others in terms of Precision, Recall, F-measure and Accuracy. Abstract: Can mobile payment platforms (MPPs) elevate Sub-Saharan Africa’s (SSA) healthcare service quality (HSQ)? In a region home to more than one billion people yet beset by a paucity of services and infrastructure, mobile devices and platforms are rapidly gaining ground. Rising healthcare needs and costs along with the fact that more than 60% of SSA lives in areas nearly 1.5 miles away from paved roads that lead to hospitals and banks, accessibility to traditional financial services remains a serious concern. As Sub-Saharan hospitals increase billing access via mobile payment platforms, there is little understanding of whether and how mobile payment platforms influence healthcare service quality (HSQ).Drawing upon economic utility and trust perspectives, this study develops an integrative model to examine mobile payment platform utility’s impact on patient trust, commitment, and HSQ perceptions. The model is empirically tested using a survey of 527 patients from the West African country of Nigeria. Results reveal a distinct amalgam of MPP utility, trust, and commitment as antecedents to HSQ perceptions, thus generating important insights and contributing to the ongoing inquiry of how digital platforms in developing countries can influence socio-economic development. Overall, the results support the study’s hypotheses and underscore the important role of MPPs. Collapse

Abstract: Open government data (OGD) exhibits substantial political, economic, cultural, and social values that have gained considerable attention globally. Based on the investigation and analysis of the OGD practice, this study raises the research question, “Why do considerable differences exist in the degree of OGD implementation among different agencies under the same local government?” Our study takes resource-based theory as theoretical foundation to explore the factors that affect OGD implementation of constituent agencies within the same local government. A questionnaire survey is conducted to analyze the effect of factors including technical capacity, organizational awareness, organizational arrangement, and rules and regulations on OGD implementation. Re­ sults show that the technical capacity, organizational arrangement, and rules and regulations of government agencies have a direct positive effect on OGD implementation. Notably, rules and regulations moderate the relationship between technical capacity and OGD implementation. Besides, the matching degree of technical capacity and other organizational factors in a government agency exerts a positive influence on OGD imple­ mentation. Finally, our study proposes policy suggestions that emphasize the direction and focus for OGD implementation. Collapse

Abstract: Due to the changing demographics of societies around the world, ageing has become a major concern for governments and policy makers alike. What has also become clear is that the older adult consumer group and the factors affecting this age group have been studied relatively less in the literature. In this paper, we aim to investigate the adoption, usage, and diffusion of smartphones within the UK older adults so as to identify the factors encouraging or inhibiting smartphone usage and service provision within this age group. To this end, we propose a conceptual framework (Model of Smartphone Acceptance) based on a set of well-known theories of adoption and diffusion. We collected data from 984 participants living in north London and applied the Partial Least Square Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM) technique to analyse the data. Our research can contribute towards reducing some of the existing digital divide within UK older adults. Moreover, businesses can benefit from our research by understanding the significant factors affecting the adoption of smartphones among the UK older population and to adapt their policies accordingly. Abstract: Public sector organizations face challenges with their procurement processes. Electronic mode of public procurement enables governments and organizations to achieve efficient and effective tendering information processing, leading to transparency and fairness in the bidding process. However, little is known on the drivers of electronic procurement assimilation in the public sector. The study examines the influence of absorptive capacity on the assimilation of electronic procurement and subsequent effect on the procurement process in the public sector. In addition, the study explores the mediating role of electronic procurement assimilation on the relationship between institutional absorptive capacity and the procurement process. Structural equation modelling was used to analyze 306 useable data from public sector organizations in Ghana where public procurement laws demand efficient and effective procurement processes. We found support for all the four hypotheses. We offer theoretical and managerial implications. Collapse

Abstract: This paper proposes a model to predict when the subunits of a multidivisional firm implement a practice adopted by the firm more or less extensively, focusing on the intraorganizational environment. Drawing on institutional arguments, I propose that a subunit’s extent of practice implementation is a combined result of coercive pressures from its headquarters, imitation of its peer units, and its own perception of the practice’s legitimacy. More specifically, I argue that a subunit will implement new practices related to corporate social responsibility (CSR) more fully (1) when the corporate mandate from the headquarters is more pressing, (2) when its peer subunits have implemented similar actions, and (3) when the practice is perceived as consistent with the subunit’s own values. Regression results further suggest that peers and headquarters influence a subunit’s extent of implementation of a practice only when the subunit perceives it as highly consistent with its own values—a finding that points to the importance of values for practice legitimacy and the need to rethink practice implementation within complex organizations. Abstract: Cervical cancer if detected early has an upward of 89% survival rate. The leading tool in identifying cervical cancer in its infancy is the Papanicolaou (Pap smear) test, which since its introduction dropped cervical cancer related deaths by 60%. The Pap smear test or Liquid-based Cytology (LBC) is a time-consuming procedure that requires a pathologist to manually identify cervical cells that may be in the middle of the processes that indicate cervical cancer. Unfortunately, due to the expenses related to conducting the Pap smear test many women are blocked from access to it and this leads to over 4000 women dying annually from cervical cancer in the United States alone. The aim of this research is to automate the methods used by pathologists in conducting the Pap smear or LBC. We show that using machine vision, ensemble learning and deep learning methods a significant portion of the Pap smear can be done automated. We set out to extract cells and cell clusters and classify those samples based on the Bethesda System for reporting cervical cytology. Achieving an accuracy of 90.4% and 91.6% for the ensemble learning and deep learning methods respectively when evaluated with a five-fold cross-validation demonstrates promise in the creation of an automated Pap smear screening test. Abstract: Using a multilevel theoretical framework, we investigate the effects of organizational and perceived learning on employees’ systematic problem solving (SPS) that aims to prevent the recurrence of a problem. At the organizational level, we focus on the deliberate learning mechanisms of knowledge articulation (OKA) and knowledge codification (OKC). At the individual level, we focus on the relative perception of the mechanisms of knowledge articulation (PKA) and knowledge codification (PKC). Drawing on both knowledge management and sensemaking literature, we move from learning only captured through organizational mechanisms, which suppose individuals are passively embedded in the organizational context, to learning captured through perceived mechanisms, which suppose individuals take an active part in the learning processes and interpret them differently. We employ multilevel structural equation modeling to test our theoretical framework using survey data from a sample of 383 shop floor employees in 52 plants. To enhance our results, we perform a set of robustness checks that control different specifications of our model and potential endogeneity issues. Our study indicates that OKC affects SPS, while OKA affects OKC. Moreover, results show that both PKA and PKC have strong positive effects on SPS. Our study draws attention to the multilevel role of organizational learning and expands the understanding of the role of problem solving in routine evolution. Abstract: Mobile advertising is an increasingly popular marketing channel since it can present advertising in a personalized manner. This study examines the development of customer product loyalty through mobile advertising by considering the drivers from affective and cognitive perspectives. An Expectation Confirmation Model (ECM), as defined for repurchase intention, is proposed as a theoretical basis for the relationship structure of related research variables. An Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) identifies affective and cognitive concerns for defining the drivers of consumer behavior. Involvement and interactivity confirmation arise as affective and cognitive concerns in this context. This research model also indicates a particular mediating role of perceived usefulness and customer satisfaction from the two drivers for developing customer product loyalty. Empirical analysis shows that both affective and cognitive perspectives, i.e., involvement and interactivity, are important drivers to motivate customer product loyalty. The findings can help practitioners design more effective approaches for mobile advertising. Collapse
