Abstract: The challenge of sustainability rests on the ability of organizations to change their practices to meet the needs of current and future generations. To date, most research on organizational change has focused on how to change within a single organization. However, an increasing number of sustainability challenges require changes across multiple organizations. In this paper, we summarize strategic challenges faced in such a setting and outline a conceptual modeling approach for strategic analysis of alliance-driven solutions. We illustrate our ideas with a case study in digital agriculture, a field particularly relevant to sustainability, and end with the identification of issues for further research. Collapse

Abstract: Cyberattacks can be considered one of the fundamental challenges that paralyze the progress of digital payment usage (DPU) progress among citizens, as consumers shun away from using digital banking services due to increased concern over information security. National Cybersecurity Commitment (NCSC) has emerged as a preventive cybersecurity mechanism for countries to tackle such cybersecurity threats. Previous studies have shown that a country's NCSC positively impacts the business and economy of the country. This study examines the effect of NCSC on digital payment usage (DPU) across nations by grounding our discussion on the institutional trust theory. As trusting belief in security measures is a culturally embedded characteristic, we also examine the moderating role of national culture through Hofstede’s cultural dimensions. We use multilevel models to analyze publicly available archives of repeated cross-sectional data covering 76 countries to test the proposed relationships. Our findings indicate that NCSC has a positive influence on DPU. Further, our results highlight that the relationship between NCSC and DPU in a country is contingent on cultural dimensions. Overall, the evidence suggests that a competent cybersecurity environment compatible with cultural values can influence the speedy diffusion of digital payments in a country. Abstract: The globalization of the world economy increases the role of value chains, where disruptions in the realization of the logistics processes occur repeatedly. Climate changes, pandemics, and military conflicts further increase the difficulties in matching supply and demand in a vast majority of networks. As a result, the digital transformation of Supply Chain Management (SCM) often referred to as Digital Supply Chain (DSC) is considered an important solution for several SCM concerns. Extensive subject matter literature research pointed out that several technologies have been studied and implemented as DSC solutions contrary to blockchain technology. Therefore, the research aims of this article is to examine the challenges of DSC with particular emphasis on blockchain technology perception in this context. Research has been conducted via structured in-depth interviews with SCM experts. Study results highlighted that blockchain is perceived by SCM experts as a technology with significant capability to support the creation of DSC, but unfortunately used at all. They also pointed out that blockchain should not be the technology of the first choice when initiating the digitization of SCM processes, but potentially beneficial for mature DSC. Collapse

Abstract: As companies increasingly move towards remote/hybrid workplace settings for both sustenance and growth motives, they face people-centric problems such as quiet quitting and organizational (dis)identification. As a way to mitigate these situations, empower employees, and improve well-being, they heavily invest in people-centric digital workplace platforms such as the employee advocacy (EA) platforms that promise both instrumental and humanistic outcomes, including encouraging digital employee advocacy behavior (DEA). However, no prior empirical research has conceptualized DEA nor have they shown the efficacy of the EA platform in encouraging DEA. Using a bricolage approach, we explore digital trace data (user reviews) to firstly conceptualize and then validate a grounded well-being led digital employee advocacy model. We contribute to EA and digital workplace literature by conceptualizing and providing measures to study DEA as well as identifying platform enabled social and psychological well-being as the key triggers to DEA. Abstract: Sustaining an IS program in healthcare encounters the complexities of the dynamic and loosely connected network of institutionally powerful actors. We apply 'orchestration' framework to examine the orchestration of public healthcare by a low power stakeholder for sustaining an IS program. We study the case of a hospital information systems running across 20+ hospitals in Himachal Pradesh, India, for more than a decade. Analysis informs that institutional network orchestration goes through multiple interconnected stages, each presenting unique dilemmas. The orchestrator takes different roles to perform various relation and material institutional work across these stages and often leverages on unanticipated events, just by being physically and temporally present. We identify four orchestration stages-promoting member engagement, building distributed ownership, managing partnership, and managing coherence. Initial stage institutional work helps orchestrator accumulate 'symbolic power', which proves critical in later stage orchestration. Findings contribute to orchestration framework and inform IS in healthcare literature. Collapse

Abstract: Artificial intelligence (AI) and blockchain are the two disruptive technologies emerging from the Fourth Industrial Revolution (IR4.0) that have introduced radical shifts in the industry. The amalgamation of AI and blockchain holds tremendous potential to create new business models enabled through digitalization. Although research on the application and convergence of AI and blockchain exists, our understanding of the utility of its integration for business remains fragmented. To address this gap, this study aims to characterize the applications and benefits of integrated AI and blockchain platforms across different verticals of business. Using bibliometric analysis, this study reveals the most influential articles on the subject based on their publications, citations, and importance in the intellectual network. Using content analysis, this study sheds light on the subject’s intellectual structure, which is underpinned by four major thematic clusters focusing on supply chains, healthcare, secure transactions, and finance and accounting. The study concludes with 10 application areas in business that can benefit from these technologies. Collapse

Abstract: Digital transformation's scope evolves from being limited to the organizational level to inter-organizational collaboration in supply chain networks and business ecosystems.Blockchain-enabled marketplaces have the potential to transform business networks by eliminating intermediaries. To investigate the interface design and visualization of blockchain-enabled marketplaces, we employed a design science methodology and synthesized knowledge from literature, practice, and qualitative expert interviews. Our research provides (1) theoretically grounded and prescriptive knowledge expressed in meta-requirements and design principles inspired by effective use theory, and (2) presents concrete design features and an expository prototype instantiation. The prototype is evaluated through focus group workshops and interviews with experts and potential users. Our work contributes to recent calls to investigate the design and visualization of blockchain-enabled marketplaces, advances research on blockchain applications in B2B contexts, and expands the literature on information system design for marketplace-oriented transformations. Abstract: To cope with climate change, an effective reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions is necessary. An acceleration of decarbonization still lacks an efficient way to precisely account GHG emissions. Recent literature acknowledges the role of Information Systems (IS) research, particularly Green IS, to contribute to decarbonization by enabling digital carbon accounting (CA). In this context, various scholars set out to design system architectures -often focusing on the energy sector due to its large potential for decarbonization. As research and practice lack a comprehensive overview (e.g., to develop standards), our work aims at reducing this identified gap by providing key characteristics of digital CA system architectures that we derive from an extensive, structured literature review and a consecutive deductive and descriptive approach. Abstract: In this study, we explore prominent contemporary technology trajectories in the software industry and how they are expected to influence the work in the software industry. Consequently, we build on cultural lag theory to analyze how technological changes affect work in software development. We present the results from a series of expert interviews that were analyzed using the Gioia method. Moreover, we identify a set of technology trends pertinent to software development from which we derive four main changes affecting the future of work in software development: (1) a shift toward scalable solutions, (2) increased emphasis on data, (3) convergence of IT and non-IT industries, and (4) the cloud as the dominant computing paradigm. Accordingly, this study contains insights into how technology (as an element of material culture) influences non-material culture, as exemplified by the work involved in software development. Abstract: Software defines digital infrastructures in the manufacturing industry, connecting services and computation resources to machines and devices. These infrastructures aim at increased flexibility, scalability, and a wider application portfolio for automated manufacturing processes. At the same time, the complexity of securing software increases dramatically. Threats to confidentiality, integrity, and availability of software can result in critical losses for automated industrial production and impact manufacturing companies. In order to map existing and emerging security challenges, we present the results of a hermeneutic literature review structured along abstraction levels and vertical integration of software. Based on this structure, we derive implications for academia and practice focused on system integrators, developers, and security auditors of digital infrastructures. Thereby, we discuss courses of action mapped to software security black boxes, infrastructure heterogeneity, and the adaptation of security for operational usage. Collapse
