Abstract: Cloud computing, financial incentive and patient-centered care are the game changers that deepen EHR diffusion beyond breadth. Based on the innovation diffusion theory (IDT), technology-organization-environment (TOE) framework and alignment literature, this study examines how these changes shape business requirement, service value and society need that drive different phases of EHR diffusion in terms of planning, adoption, usage and upgrade. A longitudinal analysis with the USA National Ambulatory Medical Care Survey (NAMCS) reveals the impacts of different drivers on EHR diffusion. In addition to quantitative results, interview observations corroborate the relationships among game changers, decision drivers and EHR diffusion. The findings provide healthcare providers, system vendors and policy-makers the insights on the best practices of promoting EHR diffusion for long-term success. Collapse

Abstract: This study aims to investigate the economic value of cloud computing from the perspective of the stock market. More specifically, we conceptualize the relationship between the cloud computing initiatives of firms and the market reaction based on resource-based and extended resource-based views. For this study, we analyze 212 firm-level cloud computing announcements between 2006 and 2011 by employing the event study methodology. Our empirical results indicate that the market positively reacts to the cloud computing initiatives of firms. Moreover, the market reactions to cloud computing initiatives depend on three key characteristics of cloud computing, namely, firm-specific, resource-specific, and vendor-specific factors. Collapse

Abstract: Previous research has found that information technology (IT) investment is associated with significant productivity gains for developed countries but not for developing countries. Yet developing countries have continued to increase their investment in IT rapidly. Given this apparent disconnect, there is a need for new research to study whether the investment has begun to pay off in greater productivity for developing countries. We analyze new data on IT investment and productivity for 45 countries from 1994 to 2007, and compare the results with earlier research. We find that upper-income developing countries have achieved positive and significant productivity gains from IT investment in the more recent period as they have increased their IT capital stocks and gained experience with the use of IT. We also find that the productivity effects of IT are moderated by country factors, including human resources, openness to foreign investment, and the quality and cost of the telecommunications infrastructure. The academic implication is that the effect of IT on productivity is expanding from the richest countries into a large group of developing countries. The policy implication is that lower-tier developing countries can also expect productivity gains from IT investments, particularly through policies that support IT use, such as greater openness to foreign investment, increased investment in tertiary education, and reduced telecommunications costs. Abstract: We provide a framework to evaluate decision making performance with Group Decision Support Systems (GDSSs) using an overall performance indicator. The indicator is constructed using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), which measures the economic efficiency of a decision-making process, or how efficiently a GDSS user converts decision resources into decision outcomes. To illustrate how our framework can be applied, we conduct an experiment that manipulates three contextual factors: communication mode, incentive structure, and group leadership. Within these contexts, we obtain an individual DEA decision efficiency score during the GDSS decision process, where participants are engaged in a mixed-motive task. We find that the communication mode, incentive structure, and interaction between the two significantly influence decision efficiency within this GDSS setting. However, the leadership structure does not have a significant impact on decision efficiency. The current study presents the first application of DEA in the area of GDSS. We illustrate how DEA is useful for evaluating GDSS-supported decision efficiency. The results suggest implications that guide the design of the next generation GDSS to support individuals within collaborative work groups involved in mixed-motive tasks. Collapse
