Abstract: Complexity has always been a topic for IS scholars. While research has addressed this problem in the past, the exponential rise of complexity due to the pervasive use of IS in our society has made complexity an even bigger justification of concern for both scholars and organizations. One of the outcomes of this risen complexity is the number and impact of IS incidents that occur due to organizations failing to prepare for a plethora of possible scenarios that can have negative consequences. We expand on Mehrizi and colleagues' (2022) theoretical framework for learning from IS incidents. Our research presents a Chaos Engineering (CE) Framework that helps organizations in generating knowledge through experimentation, in a capacity to tame complexity. CE is the discipline of experimenting on a system to build confidence and resilience, by simulating different complex behaviors. This allows organizations to learn more effectively without the real-life costs of other learning processes. Collapse

Abstract: Online reviews are integral to consumer decision-making while purchasing products on an e-commerce platform. Extant literature has conclusively established the effects of various review and reviewer related predictors to­ wards perceived helpfulness. However, background research is limited in addressing the following problem: how can readers interpret the topical summary of many helpful reviews that explain multiple themes and consecutively focus in-depth? To fill this gap, we drew upon Shannon’s Entropy Theory and Dual Process Theory to propose a set of predictors using NLP and text mining to examine helpfulness. We created four predictors - review depth, review divergence, semantic entropy and keyword relevance to build our primary empirical models. We also reported interesting findings from the interaction effects of the reviewer’s credibility, age of review, and review divergence. We also validated the robustness of our results across different product categories and higher thresholds of help­ fulness votes. Our study contributes to the electronic commerce literature with relevant managerial and theo­ retical implications through these findings. Collapse

Abstract: When looking at changes in IT adoption and use in organisations, our theories rely – for the most part – on slow adoption timespans or – to a lesser extent – abrupt crises of short duration. We lack a model of IT adoption during a crisis of extended duration. This paper tackles this gap by looking at the IT-explorative and -exploitative teaching-related practices of university lecturers in response to the COVID-19 crisis. Based on qualitative data from three European higher education institutions and their responses to the COVID-19 crisis, we propose a process model of IT exploration/exploitation under a condition of extended crisis. The model shows that IT use and practices in response to a prolonged crisis go through phases, presenting predictable challenges that management can alleviate with a well-timed approach. Collapse

Abstract: Convolutional neural network has been widely investigated for machinery condition monitoring, but its performance is highly affected by the learning of input signal representation and model structure. To address these issues, this paper presents a comprehensive deep convolutional neural network (DCNN) based condition monitoring framework to improve model performance. First, various signal representation techniques are investigated for better feature learning of the DCNN model by transforming the time series signal into different domains, such as the frequency domain, the time-frequency domain, and the reconstructed phase space. Next, the DCNN model is customized by taking into account the dimension of model, the depth of layers, and the convolutional kernel functions. The model parameters are then optimized by a mini-batch stochastic gradient descendent algorithm. Experimental studies on a gearbox test rig are utilized to evaluate the effectiveness of presented DCNN models, and the results show that the one-dimensional DCNN model with a frequency domain input outperforms the others in terms of fault classification accuracy and computational efficiency. Finally, the guidelines for choosing appropriate signal representation techniques and DCNN model structures are comprehensively discussed for machinery condition monitoring. Collapse

Abstract: Customer engagement is drastically improved through Web 2.0 technologies, especially social media platforms like Twitter. These platforms are often used by organizations for marketing, of which creation of numerous spam profiles for content promotion is common. The present paper proposes a hybrid approach for identifying the spam profiles by combining social media analytics and bio inspired computing. It adopts a modified K-Means integrated Levy flight Firefly Algorithm (LFA) with chaotic maps as an extension to Firefly Algorithm (FA) for spam detection in Twitter marketing. A total of 18,44,701 tweets have been analyzed from 14,235 Twitter profiles on 13 statistically significant factors derived from social media analytics. A Fuzzy C-Means Clustering approach is further used to identify the overlapping users in two clusters of spammers and non-spammers. Six variants of K-Means integrated FA including chaotic maps and levy flights are tested. The findings indicate that FA with chaos for tuning attractiveness coefficient using Gauss Map converges to a working solution the fastest. Further, LFA with chaos for tuning the absorption coefficient using sinusoidal map outperforms the rest of the approaches in terms of accuracy. Collapse

Abstract: Big data has received considerable attention from the information systems (IS) discipline over the past few years, with several recent commentaries, editorials, and special issue introductions on the topic appearing in leading IS outlets. These papers present varying perspectives on promising big data research topics and highlight some of the challenges that big data poses. In this editorial, we synthesize and contribute further to this discourse. We offer a first step toward an inclusive big data research agenda for IS by focusing on the interplay between big data's characteristics, the information value chain encompassing people-process-technology, and the three dominant IS research traditions (behavioral, design, and economics of IS). We view big data as a disruption to the value chain that has widespread impacts, which include but are not limited to changing the way academics conduct scholarly work. Importantly, we critically discuss the opportunities and challenges for behavioral, design science, and economics of IS research and the emerging implications for theory and methodology arising due to big data's disruptive effects. Abstract: A random lattice order decision analysis method is proposed based on an interval probability distribution preference vector by way of entropy theory, focusing on a decision preference system in which preference relation probability is described by interval values and the decision maker’s behavior is also considered. The preference characterization of decision makers is extended from four varieties of relations to seven varieties of preference relations. In addition to the concept, property, and operation rules of interval probability, the concept of interval-valued distribution preference vectors and the relative entropy on the lattice-ordered preference system are given. Then, the interval probability can be more precisely determined, and the weighting interval probability is transformed into the interval probability weight. The ER nonlinear optimization model based on preference entropy is established, individual preferences are aggregated by applying the priority rule and the intersection rule, and the specific steps of decision making are given. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the approach proposed in this paper are illustrated with a numerical example. Collapse

Abstract: Complexity considerations of enterprise architectures (EA) have become an emerging topic in EA research. However, a brief look into literature reveals a great variety of complexity notions due to the lack of a set definition. In this paper, we identify eight aspects of complexity frequently examined in wellknown complexity science literature and group them into four independent dimensions. Based on these, we propose a framework and simple notation to enable authors to explicitly document their interpretation of complexity. Thereby, we hope to get one step further in achieving a shared understanding of complexity in the field of EA research. In order to demonstrate the framework’s applicability, we provide an overview of existing literature on complexity of EAs and apply the framework to identify respective complexity notions. Using this approach, we were able to determine currently underrepresented notions of complexity which might be interesting for future research activities. Collapse
