Abstract: This study aims to investigate the role of artificial intelligence (AI) driven facial recognition to enhance a value proposition by influencing different areas of services in the travel and tourism industry. We adopted semi-structured interviews to derive insights from 26 respondents. Thematic analysis reveals the development of four main themes (personalization, data-driven service offering, security and safety, and seamless payments). Further, we mapped the impact of AI- driven facial recognition to enhance value and experience for corporate guests. Findings indicate that AI-based facial recognition can facilitate the travel and tourism industry in understanding travelers’ needs, optimization of service offers, and value-based services, whereas data-driven services can be realized in the form of customized trip planning, email, and calendar integration, and quick bill summarization. This contributes to strengthening the tourism literature through the lens of organizational information processing theory. Collapse

Abstract: Digital technology enables the transformation of work and workplaces. Previous digital work­ place transformation (DWT) literature has shown how organisations add new digital technologies to create new workplace routines. However, such an emphasis on addition may hinder scholar­ ship from recognising that some established workplace technologies and routines must disappear for new ones to emerge. Adopting the concept of deinstitutionalisation, we examine the rationale for and the process of how an organisation abandons workplace routines that conflict with its intended DWT. Referring to this as subtraction logic, we advance two contributions. First, we conceptualise how deinstitutionalisation of established workplace routines and technologies unfolds in DWT by outlining a process model that synthesises addition and subtraction. Second, we highlight the underlying rationales for DWT. With these insights, we shift the gaze from the dominant addition logic, which advocates for appropriating new digital technologies, to the equally important value of subtraction, i.e., removing existing workplace technologies (or inscribed institutional rules) to abandon workplace routines that conflict with the intended DWT. Abstract: Chatbots are currently widely been used in corporate application areas and scenarios. Especially for customer support or information acquisition, these systems are surveyed and applied successfully. However, particularly for business processes, like the business travel organization, where employees often encounter problems or need further assistance, chatbots promise positive outcomes. Nevertheless, this is currently not being focused by the scientific community, resulting in missing design recommendations and unachievable possible benefits. Therefore, we conducted a Design Science Research study to (1) examine this application scenario and deduce design recommendations, as well as (2) implement a software artifact, which provides preliminary results. First, we point out eight design recommendations for business travel organization chatbots. Second, we show how chatbots should be designed for this process. Hereby the chatbot supports the process completion and adapts it to the individual user. Further, the chatbot enables situational-dependent input options and provides workflows. Collapse

Abstract: To mitigate climate change and significantly lower greenhouse emissions, individuals need to behave in a more sustainable manner. With nearly one quarter of emissions stemming from transport, greener mobility services and transportation modes are in great need. The information system (IS) community has accepted responsibility to contribute to environmentally friendly technologies and actions. IS can play an important role in enabling and fostering user behavior changes, yet research is sparse on how IS usage and sustainable real-world behavior coincide. With commuting increasingly contributing to individual transport CO2 emissions, this study focuses on travels that employees carry out to commute. We model the real-world Business Trip Ridesharing (BTRS) behavior following the Theory of Planned Behavior-and likewise Green IS usage with the Technology Acceptance Model. The interlinkage of both realms was hypothesized using a Blended Environment (BE) framework. Drawing on a survey from a real-world case study with a large Western European company, our results indicate that (1) Green IS usage influences real-world BTRS behavior and (2) the antecedents of BTRS behavior influence the Green IS usage. We render support for the BE framework and imply scholars as well as practitioners should take both analog and digital realms into concurrent consideration. Collapse

Abstract: Given the transportation sector's significant contribution to greenhouse gas emissions, Business Trip Ridesharing (BTRS) is likely to become increasingly important as both policy and economic considerations require a rethinking within companies. With our study, we adapt the Theory of Planned Behavior to the BTRS context and add to the understanding of BTRS by examining employees' behavioral antecedents. In exploring employees' motivations for BTRS, we demonstrate an improved comprehension of the relevant factors under consideration for a successful introduction of BTRS. Our findings suggest the importance of attitude and perceived behavioral control on BTRS behavioral intention and adoption. Furthermore, a mediation analyses revealed an important role of Green Information Systems (GIS) as enabler for BTRS and strengthens the importance of BTRS for the GIS community. Collapse

Abstract: Information systems (IS) can significantly support the organization of business processes. However, the proceeding digitalization of processes can also lead to an increasing organizational complexity and the need to more intensely investigate the adherence to external or internal compliance rules. Process-related data from IS and underlying process models can, however, also contribute to an effective compliance checking. This paper first presents conceptual foundations of model-based compliance checking that motivated the MobIS-Challenge workshop for students and doctoral candidates at WI 2019. Second, we introduce the challenge itself and its corresponding data set. The data describes an exemplary travel management process in a medium-sized consulting company and served for the development and validation of adequate solutions addressing the compliance checking requirements. Solutions accepted for presentation at the workshop are briefly outlined in this paper. Collapse

Abstract: Information systems (IS) can foster business transformation toward sustainability on a large scale by supporting green technologies, thereby creating hybrid physical–digital solutions that are able to fulfil organizational performance requirements and contribute to sustainable business practices. These supporting IS provide an alternative path to corporate sustainability rather than just contributing to the ‘greening’ of business practices by aiming to improve the organizational performance impact of environmental advantageous innovations, which in turn fosters their adoption. Employing a multiple case study comprising eight companies that have implemented such eco-innovations (specifically electric vehicles) in their business processes, our findings indicate that the organizational performance contribution of eco-innovations is improved when complemented by supporting IS. This effect is achieved by (1) enhancing the efficiency of the business processes in which the eco-innovations are deployed, thus increasing eco-efficiency, and (2) enabling new functionalities, processes and business models that help achieve organizational sustainability goals, thereby driving eco-effectiveness. With these two aspects, we add two functional affordances – technological flexibility and digital eco-innovation – to the existing knowledge base of Green IS and point to an elaborated role of IS in sustainability transformation. Abstract: The Internet has brought consumers increased access to information to make purchase decisions. One of the expected consequences is an increase in the price elasticity of demand, or the percent change in demand caused by a percent change in price, because consumers are better able to compare offerings from multiple suppliers. In this paper, we analyze the impact of the Internet on demand, by comparing the demand functions in the Internet and traditional air travel channels. We use a data set that contains information for millions of records of airline ticket sales in both online and offline channels. The results suggest that consumer demand in the Internet channel is more price elastic for both transparent and opaque online travel agencies (OTAs), in part, because of more leisure travelers self-selecting the online channel, relative to business travelers. Yet, after controlling for this channel self-selection effect, we still find differences in price elasticity across channels. We find that the opaque OTAs are more price elastic than the transparent OTAs, which suggests that product information can mitigate the price pressures that arise from Internet-enabled price comparisons. We discuss the broader implications for multichannel pricing strategy and for the transparency-based design of online selling mechanisms. Collapse

Abstract: Global distribution systems (GDSs) and online travel agencies (OTAs) have been providing critical intermediation services for the air travel services industry. Their systems services have eroded the airlines' revenue by encouraging consumers to do price comparison-based purchases though, which has caused the commoditization of air travel services. The airlines have begun to adopt à la carte pricing mechanisms in their direct distribution channel, especially through their Web sites. This way, they can provide travelers with an array of information for different airline product bundles and the flexibility to customize different bundles. This mechanism design may allow airlines to decommoditize their services in the minds of consumers. We analyze two years of data from a large international airline that sold airline tickets via several different direct and indirect distribution channels. Our results suggest that demand in the à la carte channel as a whole is less price-elastic. The results for price elasticity for different market segments and bundle types across channels were not altogether consistent with our predictions though. We find that, for some branded bundles of services, price elasticity is lower in the à la carte channel, and for others it is higher. We discuss the implications for managers and the design of à la carte selling mechanisms. Collapse

Abstract: In order to achieve the large-scale reductions in carbon emissions necessary to reduce the impact of climate change, fundamental technological changes will be required. In this regard, Green IT and IS may be able to play a pivotal role; however, such initiatives require new skills of IS leaders that are not sufficiently addressed in current university programs. In the process of developing practical and relatively simple energy conservation measures (ECMs) for organizations, we identify three critical challenges that organizations will face as they engage in this process: dealing with different perspectives, setting the boundaries and context of the ECM, and researching information. Based on this experience we propose that multi-disciplinary perspectives to decision-making and experiential learning be incorporated into the Green IT/IS curriculum. Collapse
