Abstract: Components built into space vehicles and equipment (space products) must meet different regulatory requirements; in detail, each component must be certified and sustainably traceable at all times. Space engineers have expressed the need for an interoperable system to collect, manage and route certifications for components, parts and materials that go into space products. The lack of a unified approach in the European space industry is a challenge for companies involved in product development. This research proposes an open-source, secure, fast and distributed ledger technology (DLT) based solution that fits into any IT environment and is well adapted to the needs of manufacturing companies in the space sector. The results show that a blockchain-based solution based on 'Hyperledger Fabric' combined with the InterPlanetary File System is viable. The results can guide other researchers and practitioners to consider DLTs when changing their certification management paradigm with suppliers, customers and auditors. Collapse

Abstract: Researchers and practitioners are increasingly interested in understanding how organizations transform their value propositions and practices using digital technologies. While the extant literature offers important empirical and theoretical insights into digital transformation in individual organizations, we know little about how adopting organizations within an organizational field react differently over time to the same digital transformation initiative. This is unfortunate, as such insights could help scholars and managers understand option repertoires and constraints in handling digital transformation ideas that travel into organizations. Against this backdrop, we had access to a unique case over an eighteen-year period, which shows how organizations within the Danish home care field reacted differently to a nationwide digital transformation initiative on mobile technology use. To analyze this case, we applied virus theory as a promising perspective for examining how and why the same digital technology and transformation idea occasions different reactions in similar contexts. Our analysis highlights the emerging, fluctuating, and consequential nature of digital transformation within the Danish home care field, which has led to very different reactions across adopting organizations. Drawing on this analysis, we contribute to the expanding literature on digital transformation by providing theoretical and practical knowledge about variations regarding how organizations within an organizational field react over time to digital transformation ideas. Abstract: Digitalisation is imposing a strong pace of change on the business ecosystem, which implies the need for an adaptive governance model that moves away from the mechanistic approach of Command & Control. In this sense, we have considered complexity thinking and sociotechnical systems design as the key elements for designing such a governance model. Using an action-research approach with international Spanish organisations, we have developed a governance model based on Agile Portfolio Management. Our conclusions show that it is possible to use this approach to create an adaptive governance model, which allows to take on business transformation initiatives, regardless of their level of complexity. Abstract: In response to the COVID-19 crisis, many local TV newsrooms decided to have employees work from home (WFH) or from the field rather than from the newsroom. From a review of research on telework and WFH, we identified possible impacts of WFH on worker effectiveness, conceptualized as including output, individual growth and well-being, and group viability. From interviews with news directors and journalists and observation of remote work, we found that WFH news workers could successfully create a newscast, albeit with some concerns about story quality. However, WFH did not seem to satisfy workers individually or as a group. Lifting restrictions on gatherings might mitigate some of the experienced problems, but we expect to see continued challenges to news worker informal learning. Collapse

Abstract: Digital innovation is both a necessary and a challenging endeavor for most firms. To achieve progress in this regard, firms across contexts increasingly set up digital innovation units (DIUs). Despite its popularity in practice, the prospects of this initiative are to date unclear. Building upon dynamic capabilities theory, we hypothesize the performance implications of DIUs and employ panel data regressions to a longitudinal and cross-industry data-set to investigate our predictions. We find that DIUs increase performance and that this effect is strengthened by the presence of digital ventures in the industry as well as the degree to which the industry relies on tangible assets. Our additional analyses provide a nuanced perspective on the implications of DIU establishments. On the base of these findings, we derive important implications for IS research about digital innovation and transformation as well as DIUs and provide recommendations for managerial practice. Abstract: Society's accelerating digital transformation during the COVID-19 pandemic highlighted clearly that the Internet lacks a secure, efficient, and privacy-oriented model for identity. Self-sovereign identity (SSI) aims to address core weaknesses of siloed and federated approaches to digital identity management from both users' and service providers' perspectives. SSI emerged as a niche concept in libertarian communities, and was initially strongly associated with blockchain technology. Later, when businesses and governments began to invest, it quickly evolved towards a mainstream concept. To investigate this evolution and its effects on SSI, we conduct design science research rooted in the theory of technological transition pathways. Our study identifies nine core design principles of SSI as deployed in relevant applications, and discusses associated competing political and socio-technical forces in this space. Our results shed light on SSI's key characteristics, its development pathway, and tensions in the transition between regimes of digital identity management. Collapse

Abstract: Human resources departments have embraced the use of technology to incorporate game-based approaches (GBA) to encourage potential applicants to apply for open positions and to select employees among qualified candidates. We examine the academic literature on the use of serious games, game-inspired design, game-like simulations, gamification, and other GBA used to support recruitment and selection activities. Based on our review of 35 articles, we describe the state of research related to GBA for recruitment and selection, including theoretical foundations, targeted outcomes, and game design elements examined or discussed within this literature. Abstract: Companies have been investing in Big Data Analytics for several years since the emergence of this phenomenon. While their Big Data Analytics investments have undoubtedly brought benefits to firms as they have gained insightful knowledge from the large amounts of data they have been collecting and analyzing, there are concerns about whether firms are deriving the value they thought they would be getting from their Big Data investments. We develop a model of technology adoption that examines the role of drivers such as social contagion and management fashion in Big Data Analytics adoption. In addition to building a theoretical model of adoption for Big Data Analytics that goes beyond the dominant paradigm, we apply our model using a reflective methodology where we examine if there is a gap between the perceptions of value that existed when firms started out with investing in Big Data Analytics and their perceptions today. At the same time, the process of digital transformation is still under-researched within the public sector, and previous research has identified the need for additional studies into the strategic realm of digital transformation. This study explores how digital transformation strategized in a public sector organization. This is studied longitudinally through a clinical inquiry into a large, Swedish municipality using rich primary data collected 2019-2021.
