Abstract: During the Covid-19 pandemic, the shift to high-intensity remote work—three days or more a week—accelerated the digitalization of work processes on platforms such as Slack or Teams and the blurring of boundaries between work and personal life through videoconferencing and the use of personal devices for work. This paper explores the relationships between high-intensity remote workers’ information and communication technologies (ICT) privacy concerns, psychological climate for face time, and organizational affective commitment. Building on organizational support and social information processing theories, we argue that ICT privacy concerns and perceptions that an organization values physical presence in-office may undermine commitment to the organization. Based on a two-wave study of 1065 remote workers in a large multinational bank, we find that ICT privacy concerns and psychological climate for face time reinforce one another and are negatively associated with subsequent affective organizational commitment. Abstract: A citizen-centric view is key to channeling technological affordances into the development of future cities in which improvements are made with the quality of citizens’ life in mind. This paper proposes City 5.0 as a new citizen-centric design paradigm for future cities, in which cities can be seen as markets connecting service providers with citizens as consumers. City 5.0 is dedicated to eliminating restrictions that citizens face when utilizing city services. Our design paradigm focuses on smart consumption and extends the technology-centric concept of smart city with a stronger view on citizens’ roadblocks to service usage. Through a series of design workshops, we conceptualized the City 5.0 paradigm and formalized it in a semi-formal model. The applicability of the model is demonstrated using the case of a telemedical service offered by a Spanish public healthcare service provider. The usefulness of the model is validated by qualitative interviews with public organizations involved in the development of technology-based city solutions. Our contribution lies in the advancement of citizen-centric analysis and the development of city solutions for both academic and professional communities. Collapse

Abstract: This paper examines how firms have transformed and executed IT-enabled remote work initiatives during the COVID-19 pandemic. After examining archival data on a sample of 100 firms in Spain, we discover three types of IT-enabled remote work firm’s strategies: leader, agile, and survival. Leader companies have a competitive advantage over agile companies, which in turn have a competitive advantage over survival organizations. We find that firm size was crucial to executing remote work firm’s initiatives as a leader or survival. The industry significantly affected the implementation of remote work firm’s initiatives during the three pivotal periods in the telecommunications industry. Collapse

Abstract: Motivated by prior inconclusive findings on the effectiveness of open innovation initiatives in generating busi­ ness value and the complexity of open innovation, this study draws on the IT-enabled organizational capabilities perspective to propose that the mobilization of information technology (IT) resources can positively affect the development of open innovation initiatives and, in turn, improve firms' open innovation performance. Our empirical analysis of >1100 large Spanish firms confirms that firms' IT resource investments positively impact the development and execution of open innovation initiatives, which in turn improves firms' open innovation performance in terms of product and process innovations. This research contributes to the business value of IT and to Information Systems (IS) research on open innovation by evidencing the enabling role of IT investment in achieving open innovation performance gains. Abstract: Hospitals providing nurse-run school telemedicine programs can improve children's access to healthcare services by delivering such services on school premises. Despite this potential, the enrollment in such programs by parents falls short of expectations because of parents' hesitation to allow their children to receive such telemedicine healthcare services. This study investigates some aspects of the role of parents' perception of contributing to a good cause, i.e., personal mores, on their intentions to enroll their children in such a telemedicine program. Surveying parents about such a new telemedicine service that is being deployed in their school district shows that parents' personal mores are associated with increased intentions over and above its expected time-flexibility advantages. Surprisingly, trust increased intentions was fully mediated by those mores. Practical and theoretical implications are discussed, especially that doing good to others may be another reason why people adopt telemedicine, suggesting another reason beyond the utilitarian, rational, and social processes that are portrayed in previous research. Abstract: Organizations are being impacted by the rapid advances in Information Technology (IT), and motivated IT leaders are critical. Gender is also an issue in IT since women are underrepresented in IT leadership positions worldwide and in Latin America. This research in progress aims to assess a model of factors that could impact the motivation to lead of IT professionals. The proposed model integrates the occupational culture framework and the construct of the importance of gender equality policies. Previous research found that people in the IT occupation have unique characteristics that are different from other occupations. The theoretical frameworks of motivation to lead and IT occupational culture (ITOC) serve as a foundation for our research model. In addition, the construct importance of gender policies was designed and validated for this research. Abstract: Mobile payment systems are becoming more popular due to the increase in the number of smartphones, which, in turn, attracts the interest of fraudsters. Extant research has therefore developed various fraud detection methods using supervised machine learning. However, sufficient labeled data are rarely available and their detection performance is negatively affected by the extreme class imbalance in financial fraud data. The purpose of this study is to propose an XGBoost-based fraud detection framework while considering the financial consequences of fraud detection systems. The framework was empirically validated on a large dataset of more than 6 million mobile transactions. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed framework, we conducted a comparative evaluation of existing machine learning methods designed for modeling imbalanced data and outlier detection. The results suggest that in terms of standard classification measures, the proposed semi-supervised ensemble model integrating multiple unsupervised outlier detection algorithms and an XGBoost classifier achieves the best results, while the highest cost savings can be achieved by combining random under-sampling and XGBoost methods. This study has therefore financial implications for organizations to make appropriate decisions regarding the implementation of effective fraud detection systems. Collapse

Abstract: Conversational AI agents like ChatGPT have gained considerable attention in recent years, with potential implications across various domains. However, there is a gap in understanding the prevailing opinions, topics, and concerns of the public and research communities regarding these technologies. This study conducts a semi-automated analysis of over 1,006,000 tweets and 279 scholarly articles to explore perspectives on ChatGPT and its potential misuse for plagiarism, as well as the comparatively lower interest in GPTZero, a technology designed to counter AI-driven plagiarism. Employing advanced natural language processing techniques, such as sentiment analysis and topic modeling, we identify challenges and opportunities related to ChatGPT and GPTZero. Our findings uncover potential areas for improvement and provide guidance for future research and development in the field of conversational AI. Collapse
