Abstract: Cybersecurity threats targeting users are common in today's information systems. Threat actors exploit human behavior to gain unauthorized access to systems and data. The common suggestion for addressing this problem is to train users to behave better using SETA programs. The notion of training users is old, and several SETA methods are described in scientific literature. Yet, incidents stemming from insecure user behavior continue to happen and are reported as one of the most common types of incidents. Researchers argue that empirically proven SETA programs are needed and point out focus on knowledge rather than behavior, along with poor user adoption, as problems with existing programs. The present study aims to research user preferences regarding SETA methods, with the motivation that a user is more likely to adopt a program perceived positively. A qualitative approach is used to identify existing SETA methods, and a quantitative approach is used to measure user preferences regarding SETA delivery. We show that users prefer SETA methods to be effortless and flexible and outline how existing methods meet that preference. The results outline how SETA methods respond to user preferences and how different SETA methods can be implemented to maximize user perception, thereby supporting user adoption. Collapse

Abstract: Introduction to the special issueInformation Communication Technology (ICT): People, Culture, and Globalization The broad objective of this Special Issue (SI) was to deliver new insights into the management of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the view of ICT users', consumers', or managers' cultural diversity, in order to enhance our understanding of how ICT connects people across countries or cultures and affects their behavior. Understanding how ICT and culture affect human decisions is timely and of crucial importance because ICT is a driving force behind almost any form of business internationalization or globalization. Although the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia's war in Ukraine currently lead to a slowdown in business globalization, it is clear that many firms continue to operate in, or expand into foreign countries, as well as deal with people from different cultures within a country. Almost all firms and organizations today use ICT to connect with people and must therefore address questions of how culture affects ICT usage and user behavior, and what the consequences are for the organization.We therefore aimed to bring together a group of international researchers in marketing and related disciplines broadly concerned with business globalization and ICT management. The SI was initially planned as part of the Royal Bank International Research Seminar (RBIRS), which has since 2001 been very successfully held bi-annually in Montreal, Canada. RBIRC, the international conference version, was also very successfully held in 2010 in Tokyo, Japan, in 2012 in Shanghai, China, and in 2016 in Wuxi, China. RBRIS has since many years brought together likeminded researchers from across the globe, who share research interest frequently in fields related to the role of culture in consumer behavior, how consumers interact with technology, as well as links between the two. We thus planned to organize the 2020 edition of RBIRC at Kedge Business School in Marseille, France and link this SI to it as an opportunity for researchers to publish innovative and relevant work. Unfortunately, the emergence of COVID-19 as a global pandemic has scuttled our ambitious plans, and we were ultimately forced to cancel RBIRC 2020 for the well-known restrictions that prevented us making the conference meeting happen in Marseille. We regret these circumstances very much and hope that future issues of RBIRS can happen in-person again.Given that a number of authors had prepared targeted manuscripts before we cancelled the conference, we decided to maintain the SI, with the kind approval of the Editor-in-Chief, Yogesh Dwivedi, to whom we are most grateful. Despite the difficult circumstances, we received 11 manuscripts that underwent careful peer reviews, and we have finally accepted three of them for inclusion into the SI. The three papers cover three different forms of modern ICT, namely social media, human-like service robots, and P2P accommodation-sharing platforms. The authors of these papers use various types of methods and data to tackle different phenomena that enhance our understanding of how culture affects ICT usage and behavior.The first paper by Takhar, Bebek, & Jamal (2021) offers insights into the role of social media's liminal characteristics (anonymity and freedom) for ethnic minority consumers' social-cultural identity construction. Given their multicultural social environments, ethnic consumers in particular experience cultural tensions in their daily lives related to potentially conflicting online-and offline cultural-social identities. Focusing on Instagram and third-generation British Sikhs, and using a multi-method qualitative research design (observations, nethnography, and semi-structured interviews), the authors demonstrate how liminality enables imagined or idealized social-cultural identities with important implications for social media marketing, such as virtual brand communities. Marketers should consider liminality as a factor that empowers consumers' identity construction, which can help them develop stronger and more sustainable customer relationships.The second paper in this SI, written by Pitardi, Bartikowski, Osburg, Collapse

Abstract: Business process outsourcing (BPO) enables organizations to enhance operational capability, shorten response time, and gain strategic value. Yet, BPO risks are real and BPO initiatives can and do go awry. While prior research has attempted to understand BPO risks from the client perspective, the critical risks of BPO from the vendor perspective (and how they differ from those of the client perspective) are not well understood. By using the Delphi method, this study identifies and ranks BPO risk factors from the perspective of vendors as well as clients (for comparison purposes) across two countries. We identify a list of 68 BPO risk factors perceived by vendors and clients and top-ranked risk factors perceived by vendors. We categorize these factors into six risk dimensions (i.e., organizational environment, client, complexity, contract, execution, and vendor). Our findings indicate that vendors are concerned about not only the risks that influence their own business, but also those that may impact the business of clients. However, vendors focus more on client and execution risks, whereas clients focus more on vendor and organizational environment risks. Our research contributes to the existing literature by not only investigating the top-ranked risks from the perspective of vendors, but also revealing the similarities and differences in the perceptions of vendors and clients with respect to BPO risk. Abstract: As fundamental changes in information systems drive digitalization, the heavy reliance on computers today significantly increases the risk of fraud. Existing literature promotes machine learning as a potential solution approach for the problem of fraud detection as it is able able to detect patterns in large datasets efficiently. However, there is a lack of clarity and awareness on which components and functionalities of machine learning-based fraud detection systems exist and how these systems can be classified consistently. We draw on 54 identified relevant machine learning-based fraud detection systems to address this research gap and develop a taxonomic scheme. By deriving three archetypes of machine learning-based fraud detection systems, the taxonomy paves the way for research and practice to understand and advance fraud detection knowledge to combat fraud and abuse. Abstract: Digital learning platforms (DLPs) have emerged as highly effective tools to meet contemporary organizations' learning and knowledge-creation needs. Advanced information and communication technologies (ICT) embedded in these platforms create mobile learning workspaces that deliver ubiquitous yet targeted learning experiences. Scholars have shown a keen interest in assessing the success of DLPs, but most studies have examined only a specific aspect of DLP success. Current findings also show inconsistencies and contradictions that confound our understanding of this important topic. As a result, an integrated and accurate understanding of DLP success is missing. In this paper, we adopt rigorous meta-analytic procedures to consolidate extant findings and reconcile inconsistencies in our understanding of DLP success. Additionally, we extend our meta-analyses to investigate the contingency effects of two moderating variables-user context and cultural context. The results provide a more comprehensive and accurate understanding of DLP success. Our study contributes to the literature by extending the theory on DLPs and information systems (IS) success and by providing insightful recommendations for practitioners. Collapse

Abstract: The financial system is currently being transformed by digitization and sustainability. However, existing research on the topic of sustainable digital finance, which bridges both areas, is still rare and a more comprehensive understanding of the domain is a missing component in existing research. Therefore, this paper develops a taxonomy based on a comprehensive literature analysis to structure this emerging field more precisely. The taxonomy includes a strategic, an organizational, a systems and a sustainability benefits perspective. The application of the taxonomy to 126 startups reveals that their solutions primarily focus on applications in the energy, financial services and government sector and their major focus is only on five of the seventeen SDGs, which shows a clear preference for climate, energy, infrastructure, cities, and partnerships as the primary goals. Surprisingly, the startups focus merely on operational efficiency optimization like improved processes rather than disruptive innovations in product or customer-related areas. Collapse

Abstract: Rapidly evolving events such as the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic disrupt organizations across the globe. In an attempt to maintain business continuity while protecting employees’ health, many organizations allow their workforce to work from home. Employees who successfully adapt to remote work demonstrate a high digital resilience. Based on the broaden-and-build theory of positive emotions, we argue that positive sentiments towards home office reflect an individuals’ digital resilience. We collected and analyzed a data set of 518,505 tweets using text mining techniques to explore, how remote work affects the overall digital resilience of employees during the coronavirus crisis. As a result, we provide empirical evidence that the pandemic led to a significant increase in employees’ positivity towards home office, thereby reflecting a rising digital resilience. We discuss implications for organizations and governments and provide a research agenda for the IS community. Collapse

Abstract: Digital innovation has radically changed how organisations collaborate and compete. Coupled with this change are new collaborative value creation networks such as digital business ecosystems (DBEs). DBE is a sociotechnical network of individuals, organisations and technologies that collectively co-create value. Since the emergence of DBE over a decade ago, there have been limited attempts to critically review and synthesise the body of knowledge presented over the years. Thus, the purpose of this paper is to fill this gap in DBE research by: (1) developing a comprehensive framework that synthesises and provides an overall direction of DBE research; (2) pointing out gaps in DBE literature; and (3) providing future research directions. To address this purpose, we systematically analysed 101 research articles on DBE. The findings provide insightful revelations to address some limitations in the current DBE research. Abstract: Knowledge Management (KM) processes play a significant role in the implementation of various Information Systems (IS). Several review studies were carried out to afford a better understanding of the current research trend of KM processes. However, this issue still needs to be examined from other perspectives. It is observed that previous research neglects the examination of KM processes studies with regard to ISs. The current study systematically reviews and sheds the light on KM processes studies related to ISs aiming to provide a comprehensive analysis of 41 research articles published in peer-reviewed journals from 2001 to 2018. The main findings of this study indicate that knowledge sharing is the most frequent KM process studied, followed by knowledge acquisition and knowledge application. Besides, questionnaire surveys were found to be the primarily relied research methods for data collection in the context of KM processes. In addition, 78% of the analyzed studies registered positive research outcomes. In terms of IS type, most of the analyzed studies focused on investigating the impact of KM processes on E-business systems, knowledge management systems, and IS outsourcing, respectively. Additionally, in terms of data collection, the majority of the analyzed studies were primarily focused on the participants who are IS executives/managers. Furthermore, most of the analyzed studies that achieved positive outcomes were carried out in China. To that end, this review study attempts to demonstrate and detail the recent increase in the interest and the advancement made in KM processes research considering ISs studies, which form an essential reference for scholars in KM field. Abstract: Despite the numerous studies on the topic of IT employee turnover and recommendations to organizations on how to retain their employees, the general turnover trend of IT professionals remains high. The need for further research on IT turnover has been called for by many, but much of the literature continues to conduct similar studies using the same constructs, and these studies find similar results. Now is the time to turn our research attention to directions that have been unexplored or less explored. Newer research directions for the IT turnover literature will provide insights for refining and easing the impact of turnover on organizations. As we embark on new research frontiers in the IT turnover phenomenon, a comprehensive review and assessment of the state of the literature may facilitate future research in building off of existing knowledge. This paper reviews and assesses the existing literature on the voluntary turnover of IT employees, identifies the areas where research has matured, and raises directions for future research that are less chartered.
