Abstract: Despite the increasing attention and research effort, how to protect sensitive information from shoulder surfing attacks is still under studied. Existing methods for protecting sensitive textual content on users' screens from shoulder surfing attacks have various limitations, including ineffectiveness, insufficient protection of sensitive information, low usability, and high cognitive workload. To address those limitations, this paper proposes, develops, and evaluates a new solution called "detection and labeling" (D&L), which uses NLP techniques to automatically detect and label sensitive information in the textual content. The labeled and hidden sensitive information is then read to users through their headphones upon their clicking a label. Evaluation results demonstrate that D&L improves protection, enhances usability, reduces users' cognitive workload, and allows faster browsing speed compared to the baseline methods. Collapse

Abstract: The use of augmented reality (AR) in education and training is growing increasingly. However, applications to integrate augmented reality learning content into training for basic electrical engineering courses are scarce. The individual learning objectives of trainees complicate the digitalization of learning content, particularly for the drawing of circuit diagrams. To increase trainees' learning outcome while simultaneously relieving instructors of classroom supervision, we designed and developed an AR-based prototype, to enhance hand-drawn circuit diagrams in vocational training. The context sensitivity is achieved by combining AR with image recognition. In an experiment with twelve participants, a positive impact of the prototype on trainees' learning outcomes was observed, in comparison to a control group that received instructions without the prototype. Abstract: Introduction to the special issueInformation Communication Technology (ICT): People, Culture, and Globalization The broad objective of this Special Issue (SI) was to deliver new insights into the management of Information Communication Technology (ICT) in the view of ICT users', consumers', or managers' cultural diversity, in order to enhance our understanding of how ICT connects people across countries or cultures and affects their behavior. Understanding how ICT and culture affect human decisions is timely and of crucial importance because ICT is a driving force behind almost any form of business internationalization or globalization. Although the COVID-19 pandemic and Russia's war in Ukraine currently lead to a slowdown in business globalization, it is clear that many firms continue to operate in, or expand into foreign countries, as well as deal with people from different cultures within a country. Almost all firms and organizations today use ICT to connect with people and must therefore address questions of how culture affects ICT usage and user behavior, and what the consequences are for the organization.We therefore aimed to bring together a group of international researchers in marketing and related disciplines broadly concerned with business globalization and ICT management. The SI was initially planned as part of the Royal Bank International Research Seminar (RBIRS), which has since 2001 been very successfully held bi-annually in Montreal, Canada. RBIRC, the international conference version, was also very successfully held in 2010 in Tokyo, Japan, in 2012 in Shanghai, China, and in 2016 in Wuxi, China. RBRIS has since many years brought together likeminded researchers from across the globe, who share research interest frequently in fields related to the role of culture in consumer behavior, how consumers interact with technology, as well as links between the two. We thus planned to organize the 2020 edition of RBIRC at Kedge Business School in Marseille, France and link this SI to it as an opportunity for researchers to publish innovative and relevant work. Unfortunately, the emergence of COVID-19 as a global pandemic has scuttled our ambitious plans, and we were ultimately forced to cancel RBIRC 2020 for the well-known restrictions that prevented us making the conference meeting happen in Marseille. We regret these circumstances very much and hope that future issues of RBIRS can happen in-person again.Given that a number of authors had prepared targeted manuscripts before we cancelled the conference, we decided to maintain the SI, with the kind approval of the Editor-in-Chief, Yogesh Dwivedi, to whom we are most grateful. Despite the difficult circumstances, we received 11 manuscripts that underwent careful peer reviews, and we have finally accepted three of them for inclusion into the SI. The three papers cover three different forms of modern ICT, namely social media, human-like service robots, and P2P accommodation-sharing platforms. The authors of these papers use various types of methods and data to tackle different phenomena that enhance our understanding of how culture affects ICT usage and behavior.The first paper by Takhar, Bebek, & Jamal (2021) offers insights into the role of social media's liminal characteristics (anonymity and freedom) for ethnic minority consumers' social-cultural identity construction. Given their multicultural social environments, ethnic consumers in particular experience cultural tensions in their daily lives related to potentially conflicting online-and offline cultural-social identities. Focusing on Instagram and third-generation British Sikhs, and using a multi-method qualitative research design (observations, nethnography, and semi-structured interviews), the authors demonstrate how liminality enables imagined or idealized social-cultural identities with important implications for social media marketing, such as virtual brand communities. Marketers should consider liminality as a factor that empowers consumers' identity construction, which can help them develop stronger and more sustainable customer relationships.The second paper in this SI, written by Pitardi, Bartikowski, Osburg, Collapse

Abstract: In the current era of digital transformation, organizations are faced with an unprecedented volume of data that requires proper management. In order to effectively manage this data, organizations need to understand the data's requirements and usage. In addition, organizations want to leverage this data to improve their business processes and gain valuable insights. Unfortunately, many organizations lack visibility into which data attributes are being used within their processes and at what stage of the process they are being used. To address this problem, this paper presents a prototype called ADAM that uses process mining to identify data attributes and their associated metadata from processes. We provide a detailed description of the requirements gathered for the prototype and explain the design and implementation of ADAM. In particular, we show how ADAM can be utilized to identify data attributes and their specifications used in processes from an SAP ERP system. Collapse

Abstract: The increasing share of renewable energy sources poses the challenge of volatile energy generation, requiring demand side management (DSM) to manage such volatility. In view of the high industrial electricity demand and the increasing charging demand of electric vehicles (EVs), both industry and mobility represent relevant areas of DSM. However, the combination of EV charging and energy-intensive industrial processes still contains untapped synergy potentials. Thus, we present a mixed-integer linear program and quantify the economic and ecologic potential of combining energy flexibilities of industry and electric mobility within a case study. For our evaluation, we compare the results of our model to a benchmark case that separately manages industry and EV flexibilities. Our findings suggest that implementing our approach would yield both economic and ecological benefits, resulting in a reduction in anticipated costs and emissions, as well as a decrease in associated uncertainty. However, the ability to use this resource in a value-adding way requires a holistic perspective. Small-and medium-sized enterprises in particular face major challenges in the innovation and development process. Despite preliminary research in the area of data-driven services (DDS), there is a lack of methodological analysis of the key barriers for SMEs in the context of DDS development. To address this shortcoming, we have developed an interpretive structural model based on a two-stage mixed-method approach by combining a structured literature review with practice-oriented focus group interviews to identify key barriers and their interdependencies and interactions. Our paper strengthens the knowledge of DDS development through a methodological barrier analysis and provides a guide for practitioners to eliminate the most relevant barriers to DDS development. Abstract: The widespread and growing use of algorithm-enabled technologies across many aspects of public and private life is increasingly sparking concerns about the lack of transparency regarding the inner workings of algorithms. This has led to calls for (more) algorithmic transparency (AT), which refers to the disclosure of information about algorithms to enable understanding, critical review, and adjustment. To set the stage for future research on AT, our study draws on previous work to provide a more nuanced conceptualization of AT, including the explicit distinction between AT as action and AT as perception. On this conceptual basis, we set forth to conduct a comprehensive and systematic review of the literature on AT antecedents and consequences. Subsequently, we develop an integrative framework to organize the existing literature and guide future work. Our framework consists of seven central relationships: (1) AT as action versus AT as perception; factors (2) triggering and (3) shaping AT as action; (4) factors shaping AT as perception; as well as AT as perception leading to (5) rational-cognitive and (6) affective-emotional responses, and to (7) (un-)intended behavioral effects. Building on the review insights, we identify and discuss notable research gaps and inconsistencies, along with resulting opportunities for future research. review of the literature on AT. Moreover, following established guidelines (e.g., vom Brocke et al., 2015;Okoli & Schabram, 2010;Paré et al., 2015;Webster & Watson, 2002) and drawing on a review sample of 50 studies (published between 2002 and 2021), our study offers a comprehensive review and synthesis of prior research on the antecedents and consequences of AT. Abstract: As a result of the increasing requirements for urban planning, a paradigm shift towards citizen participation has evolved to collaboratively address enhancing urban challenges and social conflicts. Past projects have examined urban citizen participation processes and methods to support citizen participation. However, the challenges in the domain of informing, encouraging, and enabling participation at any time are not sufficiently examined and less attention was devoted to urban participation through mobile applications, even if required devices are widely used and can enable permanent communication channels between citizens and planning authorities. Therefore, a design science research project was initiated to examine how to design mobile applications to support citizen participation in urban planning projects. In this paper, the findings of the first cycle are presented including issues, meta-requirements, design principles, the development of a mock-up, and its evaluation to provide insight into the design of mobile applications for citizen participation. Abstract: Social media apps like TikTok have influenced the daily lives of billions of users. Such apps are forms of network goods and subject to so-called network externalities. They offer a social utility that increases with the number of app users. The social utility can be divided into a strong-tie utility (STU) and weaktie utility (WTU) as it may emerge from strong ties (e.g. close friends) and weak ties (e.g. friends of friends) respectively. To investigate their influence on the usage behaviour more closely, we develop a research model and conduct an online experiment (N=291) for collecting data for seven popular social media apps. The results prove that strong and weak ties can influence users in two ways: providing utility and exerting social pressure. While the level of these effects varies for the tested apps, the utility has a generally greater influence on the intention to use. Collapse
