Abstract: As a result of the increasing requirements for urban planning, a paradigm shift towards citizen participation has evolved to collaboratively address enhancing urban challenges and social conflicts. Past projects have examined urban citizen participation processes and methods to support citizen participation. However, the challenges in the domain of informing, encouraging, and enabling participation at any time are not sufficiently examined and less attention was devoted to urban participation through mobile applications, even if required devices are widely used and can enable permanent communication channels between citizens and planning authorities. Therefore, a design science research project was initiated to examine how to design mobile applications to support citizen participation in urban planning projects. In this paper, the findings of the first cycle are presented including issues, meta-requirements, design principles, the development of a mock-up, and its evaluation to provide insight into the design of mobile applications for citizen participation. Abstract: Human facilitators face the challenge to structure and collect relevant insights from collaborative creative work sessions, which can suffer if they face a high workload. Hence, for effective value co-creation in organizational ideation we suggest an facilitation augmentation with a conversational agent (CA). CAs have the ability to support respective collaborative work by documenting and analyzing unstructured data. Following the design science research paradigm, and based on the literature about facilitation and human-AI collaboration, we derive design principles to develop a CA prototype that collects ideas from a group ideation session and displays them back in a structured (multi-modal) manner. We evaluate the CA by conducting four focus groups. Key findings show that the CA successfully distills and enriches information. Our study contributes to understanding the role of CA in augmenting facilitation and it provides guidance for practice on how to integrate these technologies in group meetings. Collapse

Abstract: Design science research (DSR) intends to contribute design knowledge to the scientific discourse in the field of Information Systems. However, such design knowledge is typically produced in isolated DSR projects and does not follow a systematic knowledge accumulation strategy in terms of refining or extending previous design knowledge. Towards a first step in fostering design knowledge reuse and supporting knowledge accumulation in DSR, we propose a design knowledge search engine facilitating access to existing design knowledge. In this paper, we present a knowledge extraction template, a mechanism to automatically extract design knowledge of existing DSR publications based on this template as well as a search interface. Applying DSR ourselves we report on the preliminary results and findings of the first design cycle and deliver (1) design requirements derived from the literature, (2) propose an initial set of design principles, (3) a prototypical implementation called DEKNOWSE, and (4) an evaluation of the first design cycle in a focus group with DSR researchers. Abstract: With the proliferation of Business Intelligence and Analytics, data storytelling has gained increasing importance to improve communicating analytical insights to business users and support decision-making. While conceptual research on data storytelling suggests that these techniques can help improve decisionmaking, there is a lack of prescriptive knowledge on how to design data stories in Business Intelligence and Analytics. Moreover, it is not understood how data stories can facilitate effective use and support decision-making of business users. To address this challenge, we conduct a Design Science Research (DSR) project. Drawing on the theory of effective use and data storytelling techniques, we propose three design principles that we instantiate in a prototype. The results of two focus groups indicate that enhancing dashboards with data storytelling techniques increases transparent interaction and representational fidelity. Our DSR project contributes novel design knowledge for data stories that facilitate effective use. Collapse

Abstract: Many organisations embrace crowdsourcing to enhance innovation, problem-solving and value creation. While crowdsourcing in the past has been limited to just one organisation, crowdsourcing can be enhanced through collaborative practices that include sharing resources and value exchange in a 'crowdsourcing ecosystem'. However, the factors that influence the emergence of a crowdsourcing ecosystem are not yet well understood. To better understand these factors, our paper focuses on the emergence phase of crowdsourcing ecosystems. We conducted a case study of not-for-profit sector collaborative crowdsourcing projects to identify the internal and external influencing factors. We identify four major categories -preparedness, challenges, scope, and risks, along with 23 sub-categories. We believe our findings might be helpful for scholars and practitioners regarding the effective design of collaborative initiatives for crowdsourcing. Collapse

Abstract: As chatbots are gaining popularity in customer service, it is critically important for companies to continuously analyze and improve their chatbots' performance. However, current analysis approaches are often limited to the question-answer level or produce highly aggregated metrics (e.g., conversations per day) instead of leveraging the full potential of the large volume of conversation data to provide actionable insights for chatbot developers and chatbot managers. To address this challenge, we developed a novel chatbot analytics approachconversation miningbased on concepts and methods from process mining. We instantiated our approach in a conversation mining system that can be used to visually analyze customer-chatbot conversations at the process level. The results of four focus group evaluations suggest that conversation mining can help chatbot developers and chatbot managers to extract useful insights for improving customer service chatbots. Abstract: Strategy tools are widely used to inform the complex and unstructured decision making of firms. Although software has evolved to support strategy analysis, such digital strategy tools still require heavy manual work especially on the data input and processing levels, making their use time-intensive, costly, and susceptible to biases. This design research presents the 'SWOT Bot', a digital strategy tool that exploits recent advances in natural language processing (NLP) to perform a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) analysis. Our artifact uses a feed reader, an NLP pipeline, and a visual interface to automatically extract information from a text corpus (e.g., analyst reports) and present it to the user. We argue that the SWOT Bot reduces time and adds objectivity to strategy analyses while allowing the human-in-the-loop to focus on value-adding tasks. Besides providing a functioning prototype, our work provides three general design principles for the development of next-generation digital strategy tools.Strategy tools-such as a SWOT, Porter's Five Forces, or the PEST model-are widely used among managers, analysts, and consultants in today's business practice (e.g., Jarzabkowski and Kaplan, 2014;Wright et al., 2013;Vaara andWhittington, 2012 andor Clark, 1997). While the term 'tool' generally refers to anything that helps perform a specific task, management tools cover any model, concept, framework, method, or technique that helps to solve a managerial problem (Hakala and Vuorinen, 2020; Jarzabkowski and Kaplan, 2014;Knott, 2008). Strategy tools are a subset of management tools that deal with strategic challenges, such as understanding a company's positioning and developing a new competitive strategy. Strategy tools are cognitive as well as material artifacts (Paroutis et al., 2015) that shape the mental models of strategists and hence affect both content and process of strategy work (Vuorinen et al., 2018). The application of strategy tools in practice is based on quantitative and qualitative inputs, where qualitative information seems to dominate. Although the use of strategy tools has evolved from pen and paper drawings to digital templates and dedicated software suites over the past decades (Ain et al., 2019;Arnott et al., 2017), our initial analysis found that digital tools for strategy available on the market lack support on the input, processing, and output levels. Contemporary digital strategy tools heavily rely on human tasks because strategic analysis is a complex process that integrates knowledge and data from heterogeneous and often unstructured sources (Hakala and Vuorinen, 2020;Jarzabkowski and Kaplan, 2015). Abstract: Both business models and business processes represent crucial concepts for research and practice. Since both topics affect each other directly, understanding their connection is essential. However, literature does not provide a teaching concept focusing on their relationship. Using a business game could provide a suitable solution for that purpose due to its features. Therefore, the goal of this paper is to design and evaluate a business game that can be used to teach the relationship between business models and business processes. Towards this end, we apply a design science research approach to build the business game. Based on our identified design requirements, we introduce a set of design principles guiding our design process. Moreover, we demonstrate a prototypical instantiation using design features and evaluate our results with focus groups. Our work contributes to the design knowledge base of business games in the context of business models and business processes. Collapse

Abstract: The Global South (GS) refers to a block of countries in the process of rapidly catching up with the industriali­ zation of their economies. GS countries are trying to leverage their growing demand for innovative products and services to negotiate the uptake of novel technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI). The latter can help such countries further stimulate their economic growth and become influential in dictating policies that could advance global development. However, a misaligned AI-adoption strategy entails the risk of alienating the social, economic, and even cultural requirements of such countries, ultimately leading to the incorporation of tech­ nologies not serving the needs of their users. Subsequently, we conduct a study whose goal is to provide guidelines on how to perform a comprehensive analysis of the AI ecosystems in GS countries, to determine their readiness to adopt and utilize beneficially these technologies. For this, we performed a qualitative case study of two GS countries, namely Senegal and Cambodia. The depiction of their AI ecosystems unveiled the need to stimulate their societies (i.e., by media exposure, education, etc.) in discerning the practical effects of AI. However, an impactful AI implementation requires a reciprocated satisfaction of the needs of multiple contributing actors. Finally, particular recommendations are offered at the level of these countries’ academic, industrial, and governmental constitutions, suggesting to focalize their resources in order to better energize (and optimally disperse) their research and entrepreneurial capabilities that could help identify the ways in which AI solutions can be of added-value within the premises of these two countries.
