Abstract: The IT industry is getting more and more agile. Therefore, it is important to know about the required skills for agile workers in this industry. In this study, we analyzed 1000 job advertisements from online job portals to determine the differences in skill requirements for agile workers in the IT industry in Germany versus the U.S. We found that searches for non-technical skills are greater in the U.S. than in Germany. Test and Requirements Management are the most important management concept searches in both countries. JavaScript is searched more often in the U.S. This study contributes to a better understanding of the required skills of agile workers in Germany and the U.S. Collapse

Abstract: Data analytics has become an important part of companies in industry, leading to an increase in the demand for analytics experts. Data analytics is also a central aspect of trends such as "Big Data", "Data Science", "Artificial Intelligence". As such, for potential analytics professionals to have relevant job skills, educational institutions need to have an up-to-date picture of the demanded job skills. We studied the recent past to better anticipate future developments of analytics job skills through a study based on text mining using job advertisements from 2014 and 2019 summing up to a total of 17,282 advertisements. We investigated how these trends evolved by looking at meaning of words using associated words as well as topics obtained from topic modeling. Our longitudinal study reveals a shift in prevalence and meaning of analytics trends in the industry. It shows a small shift from business oriented job skills towards analytical and technical ones. This finding is accompanied by increasing popularity of "Big Data", in contrast with the reduced popularity of "Business Intelligence". Additionally, we observed how "Machine Learning" is becoming more strongly associated with the field of data science itself. Collapse

Abstract: Research on IT personnel has observed that the major predictors for turnover intention are job satisfaction and organizational commitment. However, less is known about how these predictors are determined and how they vary according to the different job types of IT personnel. Hence, we develop and evaluate a dispositional model of turnover intention across IT job types as the first approach in IT turnover research combining the personality traits of the five-factor model and the basic turnover model found among Western IS professionals into one research model. By the help of the model we analyze the role of personality in IT personnel turnover across four groups of IT roles: consultants, programmers, system engineers, and system administrators. The results of an empirical analysis of 813 IT personnel reveal significant differences across the four groups in terms of personality and job-related attitudes. In terms of personality traits, system engineers rank highest in openness and conscientiousness, IT consultants in extraversion, programmers in neuroticism, and system administrators in agreeableness. In 50% of all cases, personality traits are significant predictors for job-related attitudes. Additionally, they indirectly affect IT personnel turnover intention. Neuroticism, extraversion, and conscientiousness are also important indirect predictors for turnover intention, whereas openness has only a weak effect and agreeableness no measurable effect. Abstract: Due to a shortage of IT professionals, many companies intensify their efforts to be perceived as attractive employers in this field, especially by means of social network sites (SNS) such as Facebook. However, it is unknown whether these presences do really attract IT professionals, and if so, whether this is more due to the utilitarian (job search related) characteristics or to the hedonic (entertaining) characteristics of the SNS. In our study, we compared the usage behavior of IT graduates with that of a different group of graduates (in this case: humanities graduates). Our results reveal that corporate SNS presences are suitable to effectively attract IT professionals. Our study proves that the usage behavior of IT graduates is predominantly driven by utilitarian aspects of the SNS presences, while we could verify that humanities graduates use such SNS presences predominantly for entertainment purposes. Therefore, it seems advisable that companies choose the design for their SNS presence with particular regard to the target group that they want to attract and recruit. Collapse

Abstract: Current and future Information Systems (IS) personnel and management need to understand SQL Injection, cross-site scripting (XSS), and other web-originating information security vulnerabilities. These can have severe negative impacts, and minimizing these threats is an important consideration for application developers. There are many resources on the Internet and in books to help educate people about these and similar intrusions. The Open Web Application Security Project (OWASP) includes a robust amount of information on this subject and is an excellent starting point in the creation of lecture, demonstration, and student practice on the subject. Abstract: Online negotiation is becoming increasingly popular and important due to the rapid growth of global e-business, with the factors determining the continuance of e-negotiation systems (ENSs) usage––rather than the mere acceptance of their use––receiving more attention. This study used the expectation-disconfirmation theory to investigate the factors influencing the intention of ENS usage continuance. Using two Web-based ENSs, data were collected from 170 negotiators who participated in an e-negotiation experiment lasting 17 days. A structural-equation modeling technique was adopted to examine the research model and hypotheses. The obtained research results provide novel insights into ENS usage continuance for ENS researchers, developers, and managers. They indicate that positive disconfirmation (i.e., where the actual experience or perceived performance is better than the expectation) plays a crucial role in shaping the intentions of users to continue using an ENS. Therefore, researchers should consider postusage factors when attempting to elucidate the decision-making processes that underlie the continued use of an ENS. Similarly, the development of a successful ENS requires its developers to consider the expectations of users when designing the system specification. To ensure ENS usage continuance, IS managers should continuously monitor the users’ expectation-disconfirmation status to ensure their satisfaction with the ENS. Collapse

Abstract: Information systems auditing is a growing profession. In order for information technology educators to help keep up with the demand for information systems audit professionals, more understanding is needed about the knowledge, skills and abilities required for entry-level IT auditors. In our ongoing research, we have analyzed several sources to identify such skills. In the process we noted that there are gaps between what academics, practitioners, and professional associations see as the key skills required for success in this lucrative profession. Abstract: This paper examines trends in required job skills for IT professionals. Through an empirical study of classified job advertising for IT professionals over the past 17 years, we evaluate whether the observed trends support earlier predictions offered by researchers who sought to anticipate future job and skill demands (Leitheiser 1992; Trauth, Farwell, & Lee 1993). Many of the findings are consistent with previous studies and support the notion that employers are seeking an ever-increasing number and variety of skill sets from the new hires. In addition, we found ongoing evidence of a recruitment gap (Todd, McKeen & Gallupe 1995) where, despite many firms' stated emphasis on well-rounded individuals with business knowledge and strong "soft skills," the job advertising aspect of the recruiting process continues to focus on "hard skills". The changing demand patterns for IT professionals necessitate life-long learning skills not only for IT practitioners but also for the academics who teach them. Collapse
