Abstract: Frequent and habitual engagement with social media can reinforce certain activities such as sharing, clicking hyperlinks, and liking, which may be performed with insufficient cognition. In this study, we aimed to examine the associations between personality traits, habits, and information processing to identify social media users who are susceptible to phishing attacks. Our experimental data consisted of 215 social media users. The results revealed two important findings. First, users who scored high on the personality traits of extraversion, agree­ ableness, and neuroticism were more likely to engage in habitual behaviors that increase their susceptibility to phishing attacks, whereas those who scored high on conscientiousness were less likely. Second, users who habitually react to social media posts were more likely to apply heuristic processing, making them more sus­ ceptible to phishing attacks than those who applied systematic processing. Abstract: Migration of health workers has been a major issue of concern for most developing countries including Ghana. Extant literature has revealed that several attempts have been made from various disciplines to counter this menace in some developing countries. In this paper, the field of Information Systems (IS) tries to uncover how technology can also be used to mitigate brain drain in the health sector of developing countries, using Ghana as a case. This study adopts the theory of affordance, Maslow's theory of motivation, and Herzberg's Two-Factor theory to support the development of a conceptual framework. An exploratory research approach using a qualitative research method was adopted. Theoretically, this paper contributes to the IS literature on migration. Practically, the paper presents a basis for more technological adoption within the health sector of Ghana and other developing countries that experience medical brain drain as a challenge. Collapse

Abstract: The relationship between a doctor and a patient plays an important role in patient satisfaction with health-care services. It has become an important and contentious issue in China’s health-care reform. This study uses service fairness as a theoretical lens to investigate the influence an implementation of a patient-accessible hospital information system (HIS) has on doctor–patient relationships and patient satisfaction. We developed a research model that relates patient-accessible HIS implementation with perception of service fairness, doctor–patient relationships, and patient satisfaction. Data were collected from patients in one of the biggest hospitals in East China that has implemented patient-accessible HIS. Results of the study show that patient-accessible HIS promotes patients’ perception of service fairness, improves doctor–patient relationships, and increases patient satisfaction. Collapse

Abstract: Online health communities (OHC) are becoming valuable platforms for patients to communicate and find support. These communities are different from general online communities. The knowledge shared in an OHC can be categorized as either general (public) or specific (private), and each category is shared in vastly different ways. Using the social exchange theory, we propose a benefit vs. cost knowledge sharing model for OHCs. The benefits are mainly based on Maslow's hierarchy of needs, and the cost includes cognitive and executional costs. We use this benefit vs. cost model to examine how OHC members share general and specific knowledge. Data were collected from 323 users of two well-known OHCs in China and were analyzed using the structural equation model. The results demonstrate that three factors positively impact the sharing of both general and specific knowledge: a sense of self-worth, members’ perceived social support, and reputation enhancement. Another factor, face concern, has a negative influence on specific knowledge sharing and a positive influence on general knowledge sharing. Executional cost only negatively impacts general knowledge sharing, and cognitive cost only negatively impacts specific knowledge sharing. This study of OHCs reveals that personal benefits promote knowledge sharing and costs prohibit it. These impacts vary between general knowledge and specific knowledge sharing. Collapse

Abstract: In the era of the service economy, service innovation is a means to cope with fierce competition within a fast-changing industry. However, most microenterprises are at a competitive disadvantage in that they have limited resources and information for putting service innovation into their business practice. Owing to their inferior situation, microenterprises often do not think service innovation is related to them, nor do they have the bravery to engage their innovation endeavors. This paper presents a novel and automatic approach that can generate persuasive narrative advertisements in the form of customized motivation stories intended to encourage microenterprises to consider innovation just as the protagonist does in a story. This study adopts a three-act structure as the story framework and takes advantage of Story of Mind elements, service innovation types and microenterprise individual information as the story elements. Our approach and its information system uses Probabilistic Extended FSMs to model the story frameworks and the story elements. The approach proposed here has preliminary been justified through the observational and analytical evaluation method and is believed to shed light on the development of automated persuasive narrative communications for electronic services. Abstract: Leveraging crowd potentials through low paid crowdsourcing micro-tasks has attracted great attention in the last decade as it proves to be a powerful new paradigm to get large amounts of work done quickly. A main challenge for crowdsourcers has been to design tasks that trigger optimum outputs from the crowd while providing crowdsourcees with an experience that would attract them to the platform in the future. Drawing mainly from expectancy theory and the motivation through design of work model, we develop and test a theoretical framework to explore the impact of extrinsic reward valence and perceived task characteristics on perceived output measures in crowdsourcing contexts. We specifically focus on the impact of three crowdsourcing task dimensions: autonomy, skill use, and meaningfulness. Our findings provide support for our model and suggest ways to improve task design, use extrinsic rewards, and provide an enhanced crowdsourcing experience for participants. Collapse

Abstract: Despite the overwhelming advantages of using an IT project management methodology, organizations are rarely able to motivate their staff to use them. While empirical research states that the usefulness of a methodology is the single most important determinant of its acceptance and use by actual users, studies have not examined which aspects of usefulness are more important for which type of people in which situations. Our study is a step toward filling the gap in methodology evaluation, development, and adoption literature, which to date has not developed a theoretically and practically complete as well as relevant typology of the usefulness of a methodology and has also not studied the effect of personal traits such as needs. Based on needs and expectancy theories, we develop a conceptual model that holds that individual needs and contextual factors such as gender and age determine which aspect of the usefulness of a methodology has a bigger effect on individuals’ intentions to actually use the methodology. Abstract: Despite their enormous success the motivation behind user participation in Online Social Networks is still little understood. This study explores a variety of possible incentives and provides an empirical evaluation of their subjective relevance. The analysis is based on survey data from 129 test subjects. Using Structural Equation Modeling, we identified that the satisfaction of the needs for belongingness and the esteem needs through self-presentation together with peer pressure are the main drivers of participation. The analysis of a sub-sample of active users pointed out the satisfaction of the cognitive needs as an additional participation determinant. However, research on customer knowledge sharing in web-based communication remains new. This study aims at proposing a theoretical framework for understanding customer sharing behaviors, which we define as voluntary acts of contributions by providing information or sharing experiences, from a motivational perspective. Our focus is on why people are motivated to make contributions in online community where contributions occur primarily through internet and communication technologies. We apply Maslow’s hierarchy of needs (the motivation theory) to explore how individual motivations influence customer knowledge sharing in online community. Particularly, customer knowledge sharing is modeled as a response to varied motivations. These motivations are proposed to be influenced by the availability of reputation systems. Given the importance of global knowledge sharing in today’s world, we expect the research findings can be useful for outlining some generic guidelines for promoting customer knowledge sharing in online community.
