Abstract: Social sharing within pseudonymous online communities can assist- or hinder- the self-management of health care and emphasize challenges associated with chronic illness. For those who are affected by chronic illness who participate in a public online community, the breadth of topics discussed in a corpus of a pseudonymous group can lend insight into tracking the interaction processes and outcomes. Examining the topics discussed in the endometriosis subreddit (r/endo) informs public health strategies as well as ethical considerations in health care surrounding stigmatized illness in a public community. In the present study, the data corpus of r/endo was analyzed and scraped, employing computational data mining techniques to uncover the discursive practices within the community. The topics of self-management is constructed by diagnosed and undiagnosed patients; endometriosis etiology and understanding symptoms negotiated within the community. In an online community for those who face unique health challenges from endometriosis, we argue that users engage in a form of community crowdsourcing via information exchange and network support, spurred by the platform affordances of Reddit. Abstract: This study investigates linguistic devices and discursive strategies employed by online social movement organizations (SMOs) in attempts to deinstitutionalize long-standing, institutionalized behaviors. The research draws from an in-depth analysis of public discourse within anti-vaccine online communities in Italy and contributes to the social movement literature on framing and the theory of discursive institutionalization. It employs semi-automated text-analysis methods and interpretive analysis of textual data from seven anti-vaccine social media communities, before and subsequent to the 2017 regulatory intervention of the Italian government to increase vaccination rates. This intervention followed a phase of intense debate centered on the decrease in vaccination coverage and the spread of anti-vaccine ideas in social media as well as in the broader public discourse. The study analyzes the discursive strategies and linguistic devices of community leaders (moderators) and followers (members), and investigates shifts in micro-level online anti-vaccine discursive strategies that developed after the government regulation. The findings suggest that anti-vaccine online SMOs employ specific sets of linguistic devices, namely rhetorical fallacies, that support well-defined discursive strategies such as those aiming to dele­ gitimize actors that endorse vaccines. Furthermore, the evidence shows that these linguistic de­ vices and discursive strategies, after the government regulation, shift from an evidence-based stance towards values and emotions-based argumentations. Abstract: As an established academic journal in the e-commerce and digital platforms fields, Electronic Markets (EM) features a diverse range of topics and occupies a significant role in the information systems field. The study investigates EM’s topic diversity over the time period 2009–2020 using a text mining analysis and a bibliometric analysis and identifies 28 cluster groups. The analysis reveals that the top three topics are 1) service quality, 2) blockchain and other shared trust building solutions, their impact and credibility, as well as 3) consumer buying behavior and interactions. EM's core identity lies in a balanced set of core themes that bring technological, business or human/ social perspectives to the research of networked business and digital economy. This includes research on digital and smart services, applications, consumer behavior and business models, as well as technology and e-commerce data. Ethical and sustainability related topics are however still less present in EM. Collapse

Abstract: Various arguments for and against distributed ledger technology (DLT) appear in the media. By analyzing DLTrelated online English news articles from 2010 to 2018, first, we use organizing visions to investigate DLT’s history of evolving and expanding. Second, following the Gartner hype cycle stages, we observe how DLT may offer ripe opportunities for future inquiry. We found DLT’s diffusion was characterized by competing arguments. While DLT was initially viewed as somewhat questionable, communities collectively have (re)interpreted it favorably. DLT provides researchers with opportunities warranting further development in the information systems field. Collapse

Abstract: Because use is the critical link between information technology (IT) investments and organizational performance, IS researchers have focused attention on the post-adoption phase—after organizational IT are installed and used by employees in their work. To that end, recent theoretical work introduced IT identity—representing the strength of individuals’ self-identification with an IT—as a means to explain richer, post-adoption, IT use behaviors. Utilizing multiple methods and surveys, and focused on use of two different technologies, this study develops theory-based measures to establish IT identity’s utility for expanding the understanding of post-adoption use. Results show IT identity predicts different IT use behaviors and richer forms of use. Further, IT identity maintains its predictive validity when embedded in a model with other predictors. Given the importance of such value-creating behaviors in today’s multi-functional-platform based IT environments, our findings suggest future research consider IT identity an instrumental part of models seeking to explain IT use in post-adoption contexts. Abstract: This paper explores how managers acted as internal and external change agents to persuade the digital transformation and organizational culture through the different stages of food product innovation and development for consumer food products. A case study approach was adopted to collect rich data cataloging the cultural changes in the firm in their progressive adoption of an information technology for decision support and management control purposes when managing NPD processes and activities. We focused on the perspectives of senior management over two specific time periods of before and near the commercial launch of their new salmon fish products. Through the use of the analytics tool, Leximancer, we observed how the reasoning, decision making, and emphasis on senior management had changed over a six-month period. Our findings show the changes in organizational cultures after digital transformation was applied and overhauled onto their new product development process. Collapse

This paper explores how social movements can use virtual worlds to raise awareness or create safe spaces for their members. As social movements move into virtual worlds, the technical environment becomes more important. This paper presents an interpretive field study using netnographic research and empirical data from a study of a lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender social movement in World of Warcraft. This paper takes the position that an understanding of affordances is required for users to be able to create convivial outcomes to shape the use of virtual worlds for their own goals and intentions. The paper presents the concept of convivial affordances, which brings together the theories of affordances and conviviality, and suggests that social users can shape IT artefacts through a creative combination of affordances for their specific goals, and with community involvement. Abstract: On the occasion of its 30th anniversary, the journal Electronic Markets offered an opportunity to reflect on research published in recent years in the journal and in Bled eConference proceedings. The present paper continues research from 2012 onward, following the research paper published on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the Bled eConference. Altogether, titles, keywords and abstracts of 211 papers from Electronic Markets journal and 356 papers from Bled eConference proceedings were used in the research. Automatic content analysis was done using Leximancer software. The results provided a broad overview of concepts and themes covered in both the Electronic Markets journal and the Bled eConference proceedings. Results revealed the following overlapping themes: “information,” “service,” “business,” “online,” “social,” and “systems”. The four most important themes in Electronic Markets (“information,” “service,” “business,” and “online”) are also important and well covered in Bled eConference proceedings. In addition to the results of the analysis, the present paper also discusses future research challenges and the role of the Electronic Markets journal and the Bled eConference in bridging the gap between science and real-life challenges. Abstract: Today we live in a time where new technologies are developing rapidly. Digitalization and automation are finding their way into various industrial sectors, especially in the area of Industry 4.0. As in previous digitalization efforts in the manufacturing sector, it can be observed that the discourse is strongly concentrated on technological themes, neglecting the overall integration of technologies into the organization. In this paper, we conduct a literature review on the concept of a digital twin, i.e. a simulation-oriented closed loop system consisting of physical and digital components. We map the identified themes to the elements of a socio-technical system to show which issues in the discourse are underrepresented from a managerial point of view in order to provide indications for a more holistic discourse.
