Abstract: The increasing share of renewable energy sources poses the challenge of volatile energy generation, requiring demand side management (DSM) to manage such volatility. In view of the high industrial electricity demand and the increasing charging demand of electric vehicles (EVs), both industry and mobility represent relevant areas of DSM. However, the combination of EV charging and energy-intensive industrial processes still contains untapped synergy potentials. Thus, we present a mixed-integer linear program and quantify the economic and ecologic potential of combining energy flexibilities of industry and electric mobility within a case study. For our evaluation, we compare the results of our model to a benchmark case that separately manages industry and EV flexibilities. Our findings suggest that implementing our approach would yield both economic and ecological benefits, resulting in a reduction in anticipated costs and emissions, as well as a decrease in associated uncertainty. Abstract: Artificial Intelligence (AI) aims to elevate healthcare to a pinnacle by aiding clinical decision support. Overcoming the challenges related to the design of ethical AI will enable clinicians, physicians, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders to use and trust AI in healthcare settings. This study attempts to identify the major ethical principles influencing the utility performance of AI at different technological levels such as data access, algorithms, and systems through a thematic analysis. We observed that justice, privacy, bias, lack of regulations, risks, and interpretability are the most important principles to consider for ethical AI. This data-driven study has analyzed secondary survey data from the Pew Research Center (2020) of 36 AI experts to categorize the top ethical principles of AI design. To resolve the ethical issues identified by the meta-analysis and domain experts, we propose a new utilitarian ethics-based theoretical framework for designing ethical AI for the healthcare domain. Abstract: Issuing a disaster certificate, which is used to decide the contents of a victim’s support, requires accuracy and rapidity. However, in Japan at large, issuing of damage certificates has taken a long time in past earthquake disasters. Hence, the government needs a more efficient mechanism for issuing damage certificates. This study developed an estimation system of roof-damaged buildings to obtain an overview of earthquake damage based on aero-photo images using deep learning. To provide speedy estimation, this system utilized the trimming algorithm, which automatically generates roof image data using the location information of building polygons on GIS (Geographic Information System). Consequently, the proposed system can estimate, if a house is covered with a blue sheet with 97.57 % accuracy and also detect whether a house is damaged, with 93.51 % accuracy. It would therefore be worth considering the development of an image recognition model and a method of collecting aero-photo data to operate this system during a real earthquake. Collapse

Abstract: In the field of information systems, new technologies are giving rise to a wide range of new research topics that present researchers with new challenges. Innovations, such as artificial intelligence, have an enormous impact on society, in addition to technological progress towards automation, above all or precisely because of this. In this context, Society 5.0 was initiated to establish criteria for research and its artifacts. In this paper, evaluation criteria of a Society 5.0 are identified, which should be considered for Design Science Research artifacts in the future. Through a comprehensive literature review, 14 evaluation criteria and a new DSR goal were identified and integrated into the existing framework of Hevner et al. (2018). The paper provides researchers with an augmented DSR evaluation framework with aspects of Society 5.0. Collapse

Abstract: The implementation of digital transformation often fails. This paper aims to identify what kinds of organizational issues exist in a leading technology company regarding the implementation of information technologies. The theories are Socio-Economic Approach to Management (SEAM) and Socio-Technical Approach. The research method is a case study of OMRON Corporation. The research findings include dysfunctions and the impact of IT and digital technologies: The teammate's work in the department needs to be more cohesive, and there needs to be more communication and coordination between teammates. This may cause a delay in new product development and quality problems later; in in troducing new materials, problems often occur among the R&D department, materials procurement department, and quality department. The social factors of these dysfunctions are the organization is too vertically divided and sectionalism is strong. The managers should lead the transformation with entrepreneurship. The technical aspects are the tremendous success of the company's past technological development. It could have been more objective toward product development that emphasizes too much technology and function on the product. The contribution to theory is applying SEAM and STA theory to clarify the organizational problem in this research. The contribution to practice is analyzing the factor of dysfunction and the impact of implementing IT and data technologies. Collapse

Abstract: Despite the potential benefits that digital transformation can bring, the success rate of its implementation remains low at only 30% (BCG, 2020). The situation is even more critical and challenging in a highly competitive manufacturing industry. The dynamic environment with increasing uncertainties leads to decreased communication between departments, thus diminishing the advantages of joint venture cooperation.This paper analyzes the challenges of implementing information technology (IT) and organizational reform in an international joint venture through the perspective of the Human-Digital Competitiveness Model (Monod, et al., 2021) Since three dimensions of the Model can analysis those problems in comprehensive way. It adopts a qualitative methodology by conducting a case study (Yin, 2017) through interviews with 17 staff and related party-in-interests from both sides, as well as corporate observation.Theoretically, this paper contributes to a thorough analysis of the challenges of digital transformation and organizational changes within companies from three different dimensions. Practically, it contributes to an understanding of the impact that IT and digital technologies have on the joint venture and offers insights into how business processes can be innovated to enhance competitive advantages. Abstract: Content creators generate and upload content on social media platforms. If these platforms have a revenue-sharing policy, content creators earn income from advertising revenue. This income is heavily dependent on the distribution of the content and the resulting view counts. Platform owners may exert algorithmic control that impacts content distribution, advertising income, and, consequently, the behaviour of content creators. The objectives of the platform owners combined with the interests of the content creators may lead to paradoxical tensions between the aims of control and autonomy. The opaque nature of algorithms coupled with the need to be recognised by the algorithm further reinforces this phenomenon. This study follows an interpretive qualitative research approach applying grounded theory methodology. This research uses semi-structured interviews with content creators to develop a theory explaining the tension between control and autonomy on revenue-sharing social media platforms. The study shows that algorithmic control and incentivisation create paradoxical tensions that affect the autonomy of content creators. Content creators attempt to minimise tensions of algorithm versus audience, regularity versus scheduling autonomy, and analytics versus decision-making autonomy in two ways: through self-centred measures such as improving metrics, pre-production, and being a pioneer and extraneous measures involving their own businesses, products, and sponsorships. This study sheds some light on the phenomenon of paradoxical tensions and provides guidance and strategies for content creators and platform owners about proceeding with their relationship. This study’s findings provide platform owners and decision-makers with a deeper understanding of the behaviour of content creators and the hurdles they face in platform work. The findings help them identify challenges, draw conclusions, and implement changes. Collapse

Abstract: The recent technological evolution of the Internet of Things (IoT) and data sciences has created opportunities for intrapreneurs in non-platform firms to expand their businesses into platform ecosystem-related businesses. However, previous studies have typically focused on cases involving entrepreneurs. This study aims to clarify how intrapreneurs’ design for platform ecosystems could be different from that of entrepreneurs. We conducted an action design research (ADR) project in collaboration with a company for 29 months, and designed a platform ecosystem structure based on technological platforms related to radio frequency identifiers (RFID). Our main contribution is the following six-step process that describes how intrapreneurs design platform ecosystems: (1) designing an initial ecosystem structure based on platform ecosystem concepts and certain concepts related to the targeted market; (2) analyzing past business cases; (3) making the ecosystem structure into concrete shape; (4) verifying its validity; (5) elaborating the ecosystem structure; and (6) proposing the designed ecosystem business. Our findings highlight the differences between intrapreneurs’ and entrepreneurs’ designs of the ecosystem. First, when the design processes are underway, the direction of the design of the ecosystem needs to be flexibly modified to align with the strategy of the firm. Second, evidence for the success of the proposed platform ecosystem is required to reduce uncertainty and clarify the legitimacy of the proposition. Third, the structure of a platform ecosystem designed by intrapreneurs becomes a style that supports the existing businesses and networks of the firm. Collapse
