Abstract: In Japan, cashless is not yet popular but government and companies are devoted to the development of mobile payment methods. This research collected 241 Japanese users and applied decision trees algorithm. Six types of perceived risks (financial, privacy, performance, psychological, security, and time) were used and the categorized class is intention to use mobile payment (low, medium, and high). We also compared different competitive models to examine the performance, including decision trees, kNN, Naïve Bayes, SVM, and logistic regression and decision trees outperformed among all models. The findings indicated that privacy and performance risks are import to Japanese users. Safe, secured, reliable, and fast mobile payment environment are more important to low intention users (less concerns about financial risk). Financial loss, safe, secured, reliable, and fast mobile payment environment are more important to medium intention users (less concerns about time and security risk). Monetary loss, safe, reliable, and fast mobile payment environment are more important to high intention users (less concerns about security risk and psychological risk). The results can help Japanese companies unlock the perceived risk on mobile payment and furnish appropriate strategies to improve usage. Collapse

Abstract: Data has become a source of competitive advantages for businesses. The firms' extensive collection of personal data has sparked a debate over data privacy and security. Government regulators start establishing privacy regulations to ensure the transparency of data collection and processing. How these regulations impact competition is a critical question that has not been thoroughly studied. Our study applies a DID framework to examine the effect of GDPR on the mobile app market. We find that data privacy regulations can be both anti-competitive and pro-competitive. Specifically, we find that the competition among free apps has become more volatile after the implementation of GDPR than before. Interestingly, however, the opposite effect is found among paid apps. Our results suggest that GDPR has significantly affected the app market's competition. Also, the revenue models influence this impact. Our work contributes to multiple streams of the IS literature and provides meaningful insights for policymakers and firms. Collapse

Abstract: Professional sports has evolved from a game to an organization that has been codified, strategized, and commercialized. One factor that is shaping the sports industry is the pervasiveness of social media. On the one hand, social media is used as a powerful medium for distributing and getting news, engaging in topical discussions, and empowering brands. On the other hand, social media has become a crucial mouthpiece for athletes to interact with peers, share opinions, thoughts, and feelings. However, millions of followers, tweets, and likes later, researchers, practitioners, and athletes alike ask whether social media has an impact on an athlete’s performance. We conducted a social media usage and a sentiment analysis of 124,341 Twitter tweets extracted from 31 tennis athletes. We linked these data to 8,095 corresponding match day performances. The results show that high social media usage has a significant negative impact on athletes’ performance. Collapse

Abstract: In this paper, we use a design science approach to develop a mobile app for lung cancer patients that facilitates their interactions with their clinicians, manages and reports on their health status, and provides them access to medical information/education. This paper contributes to the information systems literature by demonstrating the value of design science research to co-create solutions that advance health care outcomes through technological innovations. The design process engaged a diverse cast of experts and methods, such as a survey of oncologists and cancer patients, a workshop, roundtables and interviews with leading patient and clinician association representatives and focus groups, including two panels each of clinicians and cancer patients. Our approach also develops actionable knowledge that is grounded in evidence from the field, including design guidelines that recapitulate what we learned from the design-testing-redesign cycles of our artefact. Abstract: In this paper we examine how highly vulnerable migrants who exist at the margins of society use mobile phones to achieve a sense of belongingness and control in their precarious life situations. Drawing on the belongingness hypothesis from Baumeister and Leary (1995), we analyse ethnographic data collected during long-term fieldwork (2018)(2019) among African migrants in South Italy. We show how, in the precarious spaces inhabited by recently-settled migrants, mobile phones ease the pain of loneliness and isolation and act as an enabler of belongingness by (1) becoming a place of refuge, and enabling feelings of comfort through (2) the creation of new social relations, and (3) bridging the old and the new world lived by subjects in new settings. Furthermore, our analysis shows that the need for loved ones and friends intertwines with the creation of mobile phone dependency among migrants, who in consequence risk becoming even more vulnerable during a critical juncture of their lives. The paper contributes to the emerging literature on ICTs and the social inclusion of migrants and refugees, exploring an urgent aspect of mobile phone usage among vulnerable migrants and illuminating new forms of sociotechnically induced dependency. Abstract: The importance of online reviews for customer decision making and their impact on sales and market efficiency is well established. One key issue for review platforms, nevertheless, is to design review systems which present helpful reviews to customersand therefore guide reviewers towards writing reviews with high informational value but minimal cognitive effort required. In this study, we investigate whether review templates that suggest product or service features (e.g., camera usability, service in a restaurant) for the review text can successfully address this dual challenge. After having generated a review template for restaurants based on a data-driven approach, we conduct an online experiment to evaluate the influence of our template on review writing and content. In line with our hypotheses, we find that review templates suggesting product or service features can foster the creation of longer reviews covering more features. Previous literature has shown that these review properties are perceived as particularly helpful. We find that, despite writing longer reviews, the reviewers do not perceive the use of a template as requiring additional effort. Our results carry important practical implications for the design of online review systems and contribute to the literature on human interaction with review systems. Collapse

Abstract: Smartphones have become central devices of daily use in our society and constitute an important part of IS research. An emergent group of smartphone users is children who grow up facing the ubiquity of such devices. Yet, little is understood concerning the antecedents and consequences of their smartphone use. This systematic literature review identifies 30 papers that empirically analyze the causes and effects leading to or resulting from smartphone usage of this vulnerable group to assess the current state of research. Parenting style is key in explaining causes for smartphone use of children. In terms of consequences, negative effects seem to outweigh the benefits. Especially sleep quality, quantity and cognitive abilities are negatively affected. Our paper identifies opportunities for further research and provides advice on proactive approaches to ensure responsible interaction of children with smartphones. Collapse

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to present a pilot mobile technology walking tour created in Venice, Italy within the context of creative tourism. The paper will focus primarily on the workings and user studies of the History Unwired (HU, see http://web.mit.edu/frontiers) project in Venice, Italy and pull in some authenticity research and other projects related to mobile technology in the tourism sector. From the outset, we recognize the potential incompatibility between the natural, palpable beauty of Venice and cutting edge mobile technology. We examine mobile media as a means of creating interactions between tourists and locals and as a means of activiting travelers as co-producers of travel experiences. This paper is being written at a time in which mobile technology content development is in its infancy, and bound to evolve in many directions, especially in the tourism industry. Abstract: Mobile commerce relies extensively on mobile phones, which, unlike wired e-commerce client computers, can be used anywhere and anytime and consequently are often used in social situations including restaurants, theaters, and buses. Use of mobile phones in these environments affects not only the user but also co-located people who can be bothered by ringing phones, overheard conversations, and clicking keys. How people perceive the impact of mobile phones in these situations may vary by user factors such as age and work status, and by the culture of the country in which the user is located. We have conducted a multinational study of attitudes about mobile phone use in social situations to which we have received over 1000 responses from five countries.
