Abstract: The implementation of information systems (IS) is a complex process that requires appropriate governance to ensure that the technical capabilities of the new IS align with organizational goals. However, existing literature lacks insight into how this alignment occurs when IS are designed as openended, weakly structured systems that offer generic functions, rather than for a singular purpose. To address this gap, this study examines the implementation of a low-code AI platform in eight large companies and the governance practices they employed to align the system's capabilities with their organizational goals. The findings highlight the importance of balanced governance practices that support and constrain the generative capacity of weakly structured IS, while enabling continuous interdependent development of organizational and technical capabilities throughout implementation. This study contributes to IS literature by responding to calls to examine challenges of implementing weakly structured IS and offering practical recommendations for implementation teams and system vendors. Abstract: An underestimated aspect of the study of ERP implementations is the longer term impact of these highly integrated applications on the way that managers work. This paper reports on the changes to managerial decision processes arising from an ERP implementation four years prior to the study. Using the managers’ own description of their goals as a lens, the objective was to gain an understanding of the impact of enterprise integration on the capability of the firm. We found that the ERP system has helped the support functions of the organisation (Finance, Quality and IS) by standardising transaction processes and thereby increasing their administrative grasp of the firm’s activities (visibility and control). The benefits for managers responsible for the demand and supply cycles are, however, scarce. Furthermore, in a dynamic business environment where processes require constant tweaking to keep abreast of changes in market conditions, highly structuring technologies such as ERP can rapidly go out of kilter with the reality of doing business, and eventually hinder the flow of basic performance information. Managers lose out on the efficiency of integration promised by ERP because of latency in the access to key operational data. Collapse

Abstract: Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) is now widely established as an interorganizational system in almost all large and medium size industrial, service and retail sectors and the purpose of this paper is to discuss the experiences of six supermarket chains concerning the use of this technology. Whilst the advantages of conducting electronic transactions are generally recognized, consensus on methodologies for quantifying the benefit success associated with interorganizational systems still remain elusive. It is argued that a comparison of pre-implementation expected benefits with post-implementation realized benefits can offer a reliable way of assessing the benefit success from EDI and other information systems. In this approach, the benefit success is expressed as a function of three benefit states namely, efficiency, neutrality and deficiency depending on whether the gap between realized and expected benefits is positive, neutral or negative respectively. In order to identify the benefit state of each participating organization, initially a series of semistructured interviews was conducted with senior managers followed by the administration of a self assessment rating instrument in the form of a questionnaire. This paper will discuss the findings along with the testing of a new conceptual framework for examining the relationship between benefit success, implementation approach and implementation success.
