Abstract: Organizations are being impacted by the rapid advances in Information Technology (IT), and motivated IT leaders are critical. Gender is also an issue in IT since women are underrepresented in IT leadership positions worldwide and in Latin America. This research in progress aims to assess a model of factors that could impact the motivation to lead of IT professionals. The proposed model integrates the occupational culture framework and the construct of the importance of gender equality policies. Previous research found that people in the IT occupation have unique characteristics that are different from other occupations. The theoretical frameworks of motivation to lead and IT occupational culture (ITOC) serve as a foundation for our research model. In addition, the construct importance of gender policies was designed and validated for this research. Abstract: Information privacy is not yet a mature “product.” The amount of monetary reward that firms should pay consumers to obtain their data is unknown. This paper measures consumers’ valuation of two types of personal information—personally identifiable information (PII) and non-PII, with the willing-to-accept (WTA) payoffs using a multi-study mixed-methods approach. We conducted two realistic auction experiments with 150 and 415 participants, respectively, as well as one interview study with 31 participants and a meta-analysis study to explain international differences in WTA prices between China and other countries. We found that while con­ sumers claimed that PII was more valuable than non-PII in the interview study, they did not demand a higher WTA price when monetizing PII in the two experimental studies. However, consumers became more cautious and provided fewer data items when dealing with PII, compared to non-PII. Consumers may ask for a higher price for non-PII than PII when they need to disclose more information. They also strategically select information being disclosed, if possible, to reduce privacy risk. Context only matters in WTA price for certain types of data, which is medical PII data in our case. Specifically, the WTA price for PII is higher in the medical information context than in the shopping information context. The meta-analysis shows that individualism and uncertainty avoidance are two key cultural dimensions explaining international differences in WTA prices. Collapse

Abstract: The term ‘digital nomad’ has gained popularity to describe professionals who work remotely from different locations facilitated by using information and communication technology. This study explores the interaction between digital nomadism and loneliness, digital nomads’ coping mechanisms to fight loneliness (with a special focus on social media use), as well as the phenomenon of fear of missing out (FoMO). Digital nomads who often experience isolation may turn to the use of Facebook, WhatsApp, and Instagram to keep in contact with family and friends and other social media like Facebook groups, Slack, and MeetUp to meet new people. However, intensive use of social media can generate FoMO. By using 15 in-depth interviews, this paper aims to explore loneliness and FoMO as issues that might negatively intersect with digital nomads’ wellbeing, thus spotlighting some of the hidden dark sides of digital nomadism that go too often unnoticed. Abstract: Views on cultureAlthough many authors (e.g. Jackson, 2011, Gibbons et al., 2021 have emphasized the role of culture for the success of business strategies, organizations and IS, the phenomenon of culture is rather difficult to grasp and due to its visible as well as invisible nature not fully amenable to deliberate design. Very often, the explicit and implicit patterns, norms and values that influence the behavior of human groups and define culture, are emergent and comprise multiple dimensions. This is reflected in the review by Leidner and Kayworth (2006) who state that "one of the greatest challenges in IS-culture research is in defining exactly what culture is and how one goes about measuring it" (p. 380). Based on their analysis of prior definitions of culture they identify research on the national level (in particular, cross-national studies) and on the organizational level. They argue that culture should be conceived as shared values since "regardless of level (organizational or national), values play a common role in determining patterns of IT development, adoption, use, and outcomes" (p. 381). Among the six themes on the role of culture in IS research, most attention received the unidirectional relationship between culture and IT (i.e. from culture on IS dimensions) and only a smaller amount of research was directed at the impact of information technology (IT) on culture and the emergence of a dedicated IT (or digital) culture. Over the years, researchers shed more light on the mutual relationship, whereas technology also impacts culture as, for example, postulated by the symmetric treatment of IS and social organizations in actor-network theory (Walsham, 1997). From the background of this mutual understanding, a multidimensional framing for the present issue of Electronic Markets shall be undertaken along four views.First, culture may be observed on a broader societal level. Following this view, interactions among organizations and individuals occur within a social and cultural setting (Håkansson & Snehota, 1995), which is influenced by national cultures. These cultures frame the behavior and conduct among actors in key dimensions such as the A fourth notion that complements the topics platform complexity, platform dualities and platform transformation from past Electronic Markets editorials, is platform culture. If businesses aim to master continuous technological and/ socio-organizational change as involved in platform transformation (Alt, 2022a, 401), then culture is known to be a key factor. A recent article in the Sloan Management Review quotes an executive that "the biggest component of digital transformation is the cultural change that goes along with it. It's good to have a strategy and technology that will enable it, but the hardest work is around culture, reeducation and the upscaling of the organization" (Pedersen 2022, p. 2). In reverse, a survey among 1700 respondents from 340 organizations in Europe and the US saw culture as "the number one hurdle to digital transformation" (Buvat et al., 2018, 2). It was not only the lack of a digital culture, but also of the unequal distribution of digital culture within the organization: in the study 40% of the senior executives and only 27% of employees were describing their organization as possessing a digital culture. The survey concludes by suggesting measures to close the employee-leadership gap, such as to become customer-centric, agile and flexible, as well as collaborative, open-minded and innovative in thinking. A more recent report also observed a worker-employer disruption and saw this driven by remote work models that spread during the pandemic (Schwartz et al., 2021). Again, culture was attributed a key role in improving workplace attractiveness for recruiting and in keeping the talented workforce. Such cultural gaps are not new to the information systems (IS) literature as shown by a survey from the 1990s, which reports that the "culture gap existing between IT and business professionals […] was losing or seriously delaying IT opportunities for their company to gain competitive advantage" (Finnegan and Willcocks 2006, 569). Abstract: Government branding is a practice that can be tied to promoting an institution (long-term orientation) or a particular administration and its elected official (short-term orientation), using both physical and digital artifacts. Reviewing the related work in the literature, we document the existence and visibility of an administration-dependent government brand in a developing country by mining social media data and the Google 2019 Spanish corpus. We test the hypothesis that administration-dependent government iconography (e.g. a logo) can lead to a change in the perceived credibility of public information in digital environments. Using an experimental survey approach that parallels the application of framing, we find that short term orientated government iconography can be detrimental to the credibility of government institutions, while they can also be seen as social opportunity costs, as budgets invested in them can be capitalized in later elections and not in the mission of the temporarily branded government body. Abstract: The objective of this review is to analyze Ultra Wide Band (UWB) technology, as an option that allows developing new solutions in indoor positioning systems (IPS), mainly with a approach applied to the elderly. The methodology that has been applied corresponds to the definition of some basics concepts about UWB and some tests in the lab; the above to demonstrate the degree of accuracy that UWB offers compared to other technologies. The findings found and presented in this paper correspond to the identification of UWB as a technology with a high degree of accuracy for IPS; also, that there are other works related to the subject, with application in different areas, but specifically as an application for older people; regarding to the tests, these allowed to verify in the laboratory the operation and accuracy of UWB, for its possible application in IPS. The research described in this paper is the beginning of a implementation in a residence center, where accuracy in location and real-time response are important, in the future we hope make conclusive contributions of the implementations made. Abstract: During the COVID-19 pandemic many restrictions were implemented to prevent the spread of the disease. These restrictions included working from home (WFH) and self-isolation. However, this situation had a negative impact on our mental health, causing depression and anxiety in many employees around the world. In this context, we hypothesized that our home spaces could become a catalyst of positive emotions through the use of technology-supported home environments, which use cyber-physical systems to reduce mental health symptoms during the lockdown. We used a qualitative approach, through interviews and cultural probes, to understand the experience of people who were forced to work from home during the lockdown. Additionally, we used a design science approach to explore technology-supported solutions that could enhance our home spaces. The result is a system that mixes analog and digital elements to create interactive rooms, which have a positive impact on people’s well-being. Collapse

Abstract: Background: Although technical debt (TD) can occur in several software development phases, little is known how TD items can affect testing activities, requiring the identification of TD elements -indicators, causes, effects, and preventive practices -related to those activities. Aims: To investigate the causes, effects, indicators, and preventive practices of test-related debt (TRD). Method: We followed an incremental triangulation process using data collected from a literature review, a survey with experts, and a survey run in the context of the InsighTD project. Results: We found that test, test automation, documentation, defect, people, and infrastructure debt items are related to software testing. In total, the study identified 22 indicators of the presence of TRD, found 87 causes for them, 51 effects of their presence, and 77 preventive practices. Conclusion: Our work summarizes those elements in an interactive conceptual framework to support the management of TD items in software testing. Collapse

Abstract: Low attendance levels in medical appointments have been associated with poor health outcomes and efficiency problems for service providers. To address this problem, healthcare managers could aim at improving attendance levels or minimizing the operational impact of no-shows by adapting resource allocation policies. However, given the uncertainty of patient behaviour, generating relevant information regarding no-show probabilities could support the decision-making process for both approaches. In this context many researchers have used multiple regression models to identify patient and appointment characteristics than can be used as good pre­ dictors for no-show probabilities. This work develops a Decision Support System (DSS) to support the im­ plementation of strategies to encourage attendance, for a preventive care program targeted at underserved communities in Bogotá, Colombia. Our contribution to literature is threefold. Firstly, we assess the effectiveness of different machine learning approaches to improve the accuracy of regression models. In particular, Random Forest and Neural Networks are used to model the problem accounting for non-linearity and variable interac­ tions. Secondly, we propose a novel use of Layer-wise Relevance Propagation in order to improve the explain­ ability of neural network predictions and obtain insights from the modelling step. Thirdly, we identify variables explaining no-show probabilities in a developing context and study its policy implications and potential for improving healthcare access. In addition to quantifying relationships reported in previous studies, we find that income and neighbourhood crime statistics affect no-show probabilities. Our results will support patient prioritization in a pilot behavioural intervention and will inform appointment planning decisions. Collapse
